Pronunciation: mou'kor-al'ez

Definition: An order of the fungal class Zygomycetes that contains all the species causing mucormycosis in humans. The genera include Cunninghamella, Rhizopus, Absidia, Rhizomucor, Mucor, Apophysomyces, Saksenaea, Syncepthalastrum, and Cokeromyces. Mortierella species are included but are of doubtful pathogenicity for humans.
