microvillus inclusion disease

 

Definition: a condition that begins at birth with persistent watery diarrhea and life-threatening malabsorption associated with villous atrophy and crypt hypoplasia in the small bowel; electron microscopy reveals microvillus inclusions in enterocytes.

Synonym(s): congenital microvillus atrophy
