Definition: an enzyme that catalyzes the reaction of mevalonate and ATP to form ADP and mevalonate 5-phosphate; this enzyme participates in the pathway for steroid synthesis; a deficiency of this enzyme will lead to mevalonic aciduria and lack of development.
