Definition: undermining ulcer of the skin and subcutaneous tissues caused by a synergistic infection by microaerophilic nonhemolytic streptococci and aerobic hemolytic staphylococci; may also include various other aerobic and anaerobic organisms.

Synonym(s): Meleney gangrene, progressive bacterial synergistic gangrene
