mannosidases

Pronunciation: man'o-si-das'ez

Definition: A group of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of terminal, nonreducing d-mannose residues of mannosides (particularly in glycoproteins and glycolipids); a-mannosidases act on a-d-mannosides whereas ß-mannosidases act on ß-d-mannosides; a deficiency of a-mannosidases is associated with mannosidosis.
