lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus

 

Definition: an RNA virus of the family Arenaviridae that infects mice, monkeys, dogs, and guinea pigs, and causes lymphocytic choriomeningitis; in humans, infection may be inapparent, but sometimes the virus causes influenzalike disease, meningitis, or rarely meningoencephalomyelitis; in utero infections of mice establish a type of immunologic tolerance.
