luteal phase of endometrial menstrual cycle

 

Definition: period lasting about 13 days, coincides with the formation of the corpus luteum; this phase is controlled by progesterone, secreted by the corpus luteum. The uterine glands secrete a glycogen-rich material while the endometrium thickens.
