Pronunciation: ke'tos

Definition: A carbohydrate containing the characteristic carbonyl group of the ketones, a polyhydroxyketone (fructose, ribulose, sedoheptulose); the majority of the naturally occurring ketoses have the carbonyl group on the second carbon.
