intervertebral disc

 

Definition: a disc interposed between the bodies of adjacent vertebrae. It is composed of an outer fibrous part (anulus fibrosus) that surrounds a central gelatinous mass (nucleus pulposus).

Synonym(s): discus intervertebralisTA, fibrocartilago intervertebralis, intervertebral cartilage
