inner stripes of renal medulla

 

Definition: the deeper or more central portion of the outer medulla of the kidney, recognizable on sagittal section through the pyramid of a fresh specimen; it is structurally distinct from the outer stripe in that it is traversed by thin as well as thick portions (limbs) of nephron tubules.
