inguinal canal

 

Definition: the obliquely directed passage through the musculoaponeurotic layers of the lower abdominal wall that transmits the spermatic cord in the male and the round ligament in the female from the pelvic cavity to the scrotum or labia majora, respectively.

Synonym(s): canalis inguinalisTA, abdominal canal, Velpeau canal
