inferior orbital fissure

 

Definition: a gap or cleft between the greater wing of the sphenoid and the orbital plate of the maxilla, through which pass the maxillary nerve and the inferior ophthalmic vein or its communicating branches to the pterygoid venous plexus in the infratemporal fossa.
