idiopathic giant-cell

Definition: Severe and rapidly progressive immune-mediated inflammation of the cardiac muscle, which leads to heart failure, ventricular arrhythmias and often death. Although a T-cell-mediated process has been suggested as a cause, the pathomechanism and predisposing factors have not been well described. Case reports have suggested an association with other autoimmune disorders, such as regional enteritis.
