Pronunciation: hi'po-vi'ta-min-o'sis

Definition: A nutritional deficiency state characterized by relative insufficiency of one or more vitamins in the diet; manifested first by depletion of tissue levels, then by functional changes, and finally by appearance of morphologic lesions.
