Definition: A cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase of the Erb family (its ligand remains unknown) involved in cell growth regulation. Overexpression of this protein in seen in some solid neoplasms, including those of the breast and of gastric cancer. It is the basis of antineoplastic treatment with pharmaceutical agents targeting this protein.
