Definition: a large flat bone formed by the fusion of the ilium, ischium, and pubis (in the adult), constituting the anterolateral portion of the pelvic girdle; it articulates with its fellow anteriorly at the pubic symphysis, with the sacrum posteriorly at the sacroiliac joint, and with the femur laterally at the hip joint.
