- compression of the underlying vein at arteriovenous crossings seen ophthalmoscopically in arteriolar sclerosis;
- on alternate stimulation with light, the pupil of an eye with optic nerve transmission defect constricts poorly or even dilates when stimulated (a relative afferent pupillary defect).
