Definition: A fungistatic antibiotic produced by Penicillium griseofulvin, P. patulum, and P. janczewskii; used in the systemic treatment of superficial fungal infections caused by the dermatophytes Microsporum, Trichophyton, and Epidermophyton; inhibits microtubule assembly.
