Pronunciation: fyu-ro'se-mid

Definition: A loop diuretic that acts by inhibiting reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the ascending loop of Henle. Produces profound diuresis with increased excretion of calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, ammonium, and phosphate.
