fumarate hydratase

Pronunciation: fu'ma-rat hi'dra-tas

Definition: An enzyme catalyzing the reversible interconversion of fumarate and water to malate, a reaction of importance in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. A deficiency will lead to mental retardation.
