foramen petrosum

 

Definition: an occasional opening in the greater wing of the sphenoid bone, between the foramen spinosum and foramen ovale, which transmits the lesser petrosal nerve.

Synonym(s): canaliculus innominatus, foramen of Arnold, petrosal foramen
