Fleitmann test

Pronunciation: flit'mahn

Definition: an obsolete test for arsenic; hydrogen is generated in a test tube containing the suspected fluid; the fluid is heated and a piece of filter paper moistened with silver nitrate solution is held over the top; if arsenic is present, the moistened paper is blackened.
