first pharyngeal arch cartilage

 

Definition: the cartilage in the mesenchyme of the first pharyngeal arch in the embryo from which the malleus and incus of the middle ear develop; its proximal end also gives rise to the sphenomandibular and anterior malleolar ligaments.
