Diphyllobothrium

Pronunciation: di'fil-lo-both're-um

Definition: A large genus of tapeworms characterized by a spatulate scolex with dorsal and ventral sucking grooves or bothria. Several species are found in humans, although only one, Diphyllobothrium latum, is of widespread importance.
