Pronunciation: di'en-sef'a-lon, -sef'a-la

Definition: The caudal part of the prosencephalon composed of the dorsal thalamus (or thalamus) epithalamus, subthalamus, and hypothalamus. the geniculate bodies, sometimes referred to as the metathalamus, are actualy part of the thalamus.
