cricoid cartilage

 

Definition: the lowermost of the laryngeal cartilages; it is shaped like a signet ring, being expanded into a nearly quadrilateral plate (lamina) posteriorly; the anterior portion is called the arch (arcus).

Synonym(s): cartilago cricoideaTA, anular cartilage
