Pronunciation: kro'mo-bak-ter'e-um

Definition: A genus of bacteria containing gram-negative, motile rods. These microorganisms produce a violet pigment (violacein) and are occasionally pathogenic to humans and animals. The type species is Chromobacterium violaceum.
