childhood tuberculosis

Definition

initial (primary) infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, characterized by pneumonic lesions in the middle parts of the lungs, rarely cavitary, with rapid spread to lymph nodes in hilar and paratracheal areas; more often seen in childhood, but the pattern is not limited to children.
