Definition: a multiunit transmembrane protein that possesses specific binding sites of a particular molecule and transports that substance across the cell membrane. It does so by reversibly altering its conformation after binding occurs and after resuming its original molecular conformation after transporting and releasing the substance on the other side of the membrane.
