basilar artery

 

Definition: formed by union of the intracranial portions of the two vertebral arteries; runs along the clivus in the subarachnoid space from the lower to the upper border of the pons, where it bifurcates into the two posterior cerebral arteries; branches, anterior inferior cerebellar artery [TA], pontine arteries [TA], mesencephalic arteries [TA], superior cerebellar artery [TA], and posterior cerebral artery [TA].
