Barmah Forest virus


Definition: a species of Alphavirus that has caused outbreaks of polyarthritis in humans in Australia; transmitted by mosquitoes.

[the virus was first isolated from mosquitoes collected at the Barmah Forest in southeastern Australia in 1974]
