Pronunciation: an′krod

Definition: A fraction obtained from the venom of the Malayan pit viper, Agkistrodon rhodostoma, which contains a fibrinogen-splitting enzyme; produces hypofibrinogenemia and diminution of both whole blood and plasma viscosity for improvement of the rheologic properties of blood, and is used in treatment of chronic peripheral vascular disease.
