Definition: A thiophosphate prodrug used as a cytoprotective agent in cancer chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It reduces the incidence of xerostomia in patients undergoing radiation to the head and neck and reduces the incidence of neutropenia by chemotherapeutic agents.
