aldosterone antagonist

 

Definition: an agent that opposes the action of the adrenal hormone aldosterone on renal tubular mineralocorticoid retention; these agents, spironolactone, are useful in treating the hypertension of primary hyperaldosteronism or the sodium retention of secondary hyperaldosteronism.
