adhesive atelectasis


Definition: alveolar collapse in the presence of patent airways, especially when surfactant is inactivated or absent, particularly in respiratory distress syndrome of the newborn, acute radiation pneumonitis, or viral pneumonia.

Synonym(s): microatelectasis, nonobstructive atelectasis
