ACTH stimulation test
Definition: a test for adrenal cortical function; ACTH administered by bolus, continuous intravenous infusion, or intramuscularly, evokes an increase in plasma cortisol in normal persons; in adrenal cortical insufficiency, the expected increase in plasma cortisol is limited or nonexistent.
