Course "Extracting information from geochemical data" has been pre-approved by RAPS as eligible for up to 12 credits towards a participant's RAC recertification upon full completion.Overview: Most specialists strongly recommend to sample every meter of the drill core or of a trench and to use multielement analysis, rather than just asking the laboratory for gold test. There are also many other types of analysis that are ignored by the industry.

But even when such analyses are requested, most of the time the fed geologist is not well trained on the necessary techniques and methods to extract all the information contained in the data. This seminar will teach you what to ask and how to extract all the important information of your dataWhy should you attend? You, as a person making decisions on where to drill or how to manage your exploration budget, will benefit from this seminar that will show you all types of analyses that can be requested to help you in your exploration goal- finding the new ore body. You will also learn how to extract all the important information of your data, including the use of compositional data analysis.Areas Covered in the Session:How to determine the type o samplingHow to determine the type of assaysGeneral processing of the dataCompositional Data AnalysisRepresenting the resultsWho will benefit:GeologistsGeochemistsExploration personnelGraduate studentsPostgraduate studentsAgenda:Day 1 Schedule: Lecture 1:How to determine the type of samplingMechanical anomaliesChemical anomaliesChemo-mechanical anomaliesScale of workLecture 2:How to determine the type of assaysWhat are you looking for? What the laboratory can offer?Lecture 3: QA&QC in the field and in the laboratoryQA&QC in the fieldQA&QC in the laboratoryLecture 4:General processing of the dataPreparing the dataThe problem of zeros and b.d.l. dataHurricane valuesDistribution lawPreparing the data for further analysis.Day 2 Schedule: Lecture 1:Compositional Data AnalysisBrief introductionComparing CDa with normal statisticsALRCLRILRLecture 2:Processing major elementsStatistical processingDetermining the most probable magmatic event.Lecture 3:Processing trace elementsStatistical processingEstimating the erosional levelDetermining geochemical indexesLecture 4:Graphical representation of the resultsVariogramsSURFERSpeaker: Ricardo VallsPresident, Valls Geoconsultant As a professional geologist with thirty years in the mining industry, I have extensive geological, geochemical, and mining experience, managerial skills, and a solid background in research techniques, and training of technical personnel.

I am fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Russian. I have been involved in various projects world-wide (Canada, Africa, Russia, Indonesia, the Caribbean and Central and South America). Projects included from regional reconnaissance to local mapping, diamond drilling and RC-drilling programs, open pit and underground mapping and sampling, geochemical sampling and interpretation, and several exploration techniques pertaining to the search for diamonds, PGM, gold, nickel, silver, base metals, industrial minerals, oil & gas, and other magmatic, hydrothermal, porphyritic, VMS and SEDEX ore deposits.

Special strengths are related to acquisition of new properties, geochemical and geological studies, management and organization, geomathematical analysis and modelling, compositional data analysis, structural studies, database design, QA&QC studies, exploration studies and writing technical reports.
