For Antiphospholipid Syndrome "This condition led to a stroke for me, so this medicine has been a lifesaver and has given me peace of mind. I also have a great doctor and nurse in his office who have guided me through the proper use when needed, and I even test my own INR."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, First Event "I am 23 and have been taking this for a year now. After suffering from a blood clot in my leg last year, I found out that I have a blood clotting disorder that is caused by a genetic mutation and have to remain on a blood thinner permanently. I have been taking Warfarin from the beginning and have had no side effects. My uncle had tried Warfarin and suffered from a few side effects, which prompted him to switch to Coumadin. For the short time he was on Coumadin, he had no complaints. I suppose it depends on the individual, but the Warfarin has been working just fine for me and is very affordable."

For Heart Attack "Dad has been on warfarin/Coumadin for over 10 years. He started taking it after he had a triple bypass. He has since had two stents, one at a time. He is 83 years old and has been getting along great. He recently got sick and went to the hospital. All of his symptoms could have been side effects from the warfarin. The doctors would not put down a reason for his getting ill. I would give warfarin a good rating. By the way, if you start interacting with cartoon characters on TV or can watch a movie just by closing your eyes, don't be alarmed. You're not alone. Just try to have fun with it. That's what Dad does."

For Heart Attack "This was recommended to my brother-in-law last year, and he almost died from it. Severe, and I mean severe diarrhea, falling all over the place. It was terrible. Then my sister told the clinic she would not let him take any more, and from that day he just improved back to his normal self. In December last year, 2016, my sister had a mild heart attack, and she is now on warfarin. She has exactly the same symptoms, though not as bad. I have urged her to take it up with her own GP, which she will do in three days' time. What I don't understand is every 'specialist' says that you should avoid aspirin when taking warfarin, so why do they prescribe them together? Strange."

Warfarin for Pulmonary Embolism, Recurrent Event "I've been taking Coumadin for about 20 years. I have many times gone too long without going for my blood work, but I work a lot of hours. The only occasional side effect is a bad headache. I went to one of the top hematologists in our area and was told if I tolerate it well, that I shouldn't switch. My internist has been trying for years to switch me to an 'equivalent' that doesn't need the maintenance, but if I don't have any problems with it, I am going to stick with it. It has saved my life for a long time, between having DVTs and PEs. Apparently, a congenital problem according to the experts."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, First Event "I have been on warfarin for about 6 months now. I had a kidney removed, and later it was discovered through testing that I had a blood clot in my leg, therefore, my physician put me on warfarin. I have been up and down with my dosages, as one time my INR was too high and then it's too low - as of now, I am alternating doses every other day. I will see next week if that helps keep my INR steady. I have not noticed any side effects from this drug, but I am also on a kidney drug which has given me quite a few side effects, so maybe I just don't notice any from the warfarin."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Recurrent Event "I have been using warfarin now for 12 years for DVTs. After the first year, I was taken off warfarin and put on Xarelto for 4 months and had gotten my second new blood clot in my other leg, and a Baker's cyst under my left knee. So, I was then put back on warfarin and have been on it ever since. I can't say that I've had headaches from using warfarin per se. Other than brain fog, I would say probably sums it up the most. But I'm glad I'm taking it and will be for the rest of my life."

For Heart Attack "My late wife had been on warfarin for a number of years. What looked like bruises showed up on the back of both legs below the knees. The 'bruises' eventually became open sores and would not heal - calciphylaxis. The sores opened up around mid-April 2019, and she passed away late August 2019. The wound doctor that was treating the open wounds did tell my wife that 'you may die from this type of problem as the blood vessels are calcifying.' The doctor she saw for possible kidney problems immediately placed her on a different blood thinner as he said, 'I see cases of this only in patients that are on dialysis.'"

Warfarin for Prosthetic Heart Valves, Mechanical Valves - Thrombosis Prophylaxis "I had a St. Jude mechanical valve implanted in 2011 and have been on Coumadin since. Now I hear they’re stopping making the brand name formulation? What am I supposed to do? My INR has been fluctuating between 1.8 and 4.6 weekly, and I get blood drawn once a week, and determining how much to take or not take is almost a daily battle. I’m going to need another similar medication now? I’ve been faithful to my schedule, and despite the constant daily dose changes, I’ve been doing okay. I hear that there are now better and less dangerous anti-clotting medications. This may be a good thing. There’s not just Coumadin available now. We’ll see. Insurance is still paying for it, so until they stop covering it, I will stay with Coumadin."

Warfarin for Prosthetic Heart Valves, Mechanical Valves - Thrombosis Prophylaxis "I have an artificial mitral heart valve since 2010, resulting in a lifetime of blood thinner therapy for me. The first year was a rollercoaster ride with INR/ProTime while taking generic warfarin/Coumadin. A switch to Jantoven stabilized my INR results dramatically. I have remained on Jantoven all this time. I am quite thankful for this medication. Only the past couple of years has my insurance been covering this medication, and I am so grateful! I soon will be retired and am not sure how Medicare will handle costs of the medication. Being on SS alone, the cost could possibly be prohibitive."

Warfarin "I tried all the other medications so I would not have to test my INR twice a week; however, those medications made me sick. I do not have any side effects on Coumadin, and I do not have any issues keeping my blood therapeutic. If my INR were to go too high, I would eat some vitamin K, which is in green leafy vegetables, and that would lower it. If it was too low, I would increase my Coumadin dosage and report to my doctor. It is very simple, and I love it."
