For Cluster Headaches "I have severe and debilitating cluster tension headaches. I had a problem with doctors trying to treat me for migraines and I DON'T HAVE MIGRAINES. This is the only medication that seems to work. My headaches seem to stem from my neck. This medicine totally relieves my neck pain and may also be helping my sciatica. Sleepy.... YES. However I usually have trouble sleeping from the headaches and neck pain, so I'm not complaining."

Zanaflex (tizanidine) for Muscle Spasm "My mother had taken this for years for leg cramps. She started having hallucinations. She started by having a dream every night for about a month that involved the same people. When she woke up in the morning, her dreams had become reality for her. I finally convinced her to go off the medication and now no more problems. Her cardiologist suggested she go off the medication about 6 month before."

For Muscle Spasm "I have excruciating muscle spasms in my back just on the left side and down my sciatic nerve in my left leg. I have been taking hydrocodone for quite a long time and it only barely did any good along with Flexeril. I finally found a neurologist and he took me off the Flexeril and gave me tizanadine in addition to gabapentin and the hydrocodone. It has been working really well in that I can now stand up long enough to cook dinner where, before, I had to sit down every few minutes just to be able to make a salad, let alone a whole meal. I can grocery shop for as long as it takes without having to go to the pharmacy area to sit and can again shop for clothing, household items and whatever I need for as long as I need. Anyone with hair loss?"

For Muscle Spasm "A few years ago an NP put me on 10mg of baclofen then later 20mg. When I asked for something stronger a couple years later denied me because most twenty-something-year-olds just wanted to get high and if the pain was as bad as I claimed to see a specialist. Which she knew I could not afford to do. I finally saved up enough money to afford a pain specialist and all the out of pocket expenses that is necessary to find out what is wrong. I was prescribed this medication. Within an hour of taking 4mg at 8pm I was knocked out within an hour. I woke up at midnight foggy and unable to fall asleep until 2am. When I woke up at 7am from a freakishly vivid nightmare I was EVEN MORE groggy which lasted until about 12pm. I did everything to try to get out of this groggy state of mind including chugging water to flush the medication out of my system, multiple cups of coffee, my prescribed ADD medication and a cold shower. I had to wait it out."

For Muscle Spasm "Great for the lower back spasm I was experiencing. I was prescribed Dr Reddy Tizanidine,4mg/8hrs. I did not read the side effects, and the NP did not mention any. Upon taking it, about 30 minutes I was extremely thirsty, more than ever in my entire life. I laid down, and fell almost instantly into the best sleep in a LONG time. However, it was a deeeeep sleep! I had one of the most horrific nightmares ever! I am not talking about just going to the store in my underwear kind of dream, I’m taking about bloody, horrible, nightmares. These were so real and so vivid that I can STILL remember them 2 days later. I woke up and went to pee, 1 hour later vivid dream, pee, repeat all night. At one point, I even heard voices talking outside my house. I couldn’t understand what they were saying."

For Muscle Spasm "I was given tizanidine to help with back spasms from 2 herniated disc. Within 10-20 minuets of taking this I was extremely tired. The first time I had the side effect I would wake up a few hours into the night completely drenched in swear and it sounded like people were talking which I live alone. I continued taking it with the same issue every night after a week in I woke up with hallucinations. I had never been so scared in my life it lasted a good hour. I never took it again and when reading up on it after this is a common side effect. I just want to warn other people before taking this medicine."

For Muscle Spasm "My Pain Specialist prescribed this after multiple surgeries and diagnosis. I have the 4 mg table , but take 1 mg (the pills are scored into 1/4's) or more if needed. The 1 mg at bedtime helps to relax your muscles and you don't wait up exhausted. I have tried Soma, Flexeril, and Skelaxin the the past and Tizanidine works the best!"

Zanaflex (tizanidine) for Muscle Spasm "Well, I really am satisfied w/this medicine. I take it combo w/my pain medication. I was in a car accident two years ago and aside from the pain meds helping me w/pain, this is what actually allows the muscles themselves able to relax so I can sleep better. The one I really can't stand is 'flexeril". I don't what the deal is w/that because of anything, it makes ALL of my extremeties "jump"...like restless leg, but restless EVERYWHERE...(the legs too). The big problem is actually I got a new pain dr., but he only believes in one muscle relaxer and that's baclofen, which does ansolutely NOTHING. His intern told me that I could take two at a time, and still nothing. "

Zanaflex (tizanidine) for Muscle Spasm "Have rupture disks in my lower back L4 L5. This is the best muscle relaxer for me, have taken about all of them. Better than Valium and Soma and they were 2 of the better muscle relaxers I had taken before!"

Zanaflex (tizanidine) "I'm an active 51-year-old female with severe neck pain, esp. on the right, and probably from playing too many games on Android. I have had trigger point injections, facet blocks, PT, massage, TENS, daily heat therapy, and a host of meds over the past several months. I also take Norco regularly. Soma did not help the neck pain. But this Zanaflex works very well to alleviate the neck pain quickly. I only take it if I don't have to drive (or be social) because of the dry mouth and grogginess. My brother, 29, takes it for his back pain and swears by it, too. I just wish I could get rid of the neck pain. I think it's also improved with my new exercise program: 30 mins on the elliptical, stretches, crunches, and leg lifts, then machines."

For Cluster Headaches "I suffer from tension headaches, migraines, cluster headaches, you name it. I take Fioricet when I feel a migraine coming on. Sometimes it doesn't help and that's when I realize I have misjudged the type of headache I have at that time. As the symptoms progress to a classic cluster headache I take between 4 to 8mg of tizanadine and in about 30 minutes my pain goes from a 9 or 10 to a 2 or 3. Many of my headaches come from my neck and cervical spine issues. This medication helps the stiff, sore muscles in my neck and upper back which goes along with some types of my headaches. Sometimes it's hard to tell as I go through a cycle of cluster headaches with other types mixed in. This medication, above all my other headache meds, is the most effective. It does have side effects of dry mouth and sedation. At night the sedation is great, but tough to function during the day. I can take 2mg without getting sleepy but it's not enough to help sufficiently with the intense pain."

"I've had migraines (chronic) for 25 years and have tried 30+ medications and multiple treatments. I've also seen multiple specialists. Zanaflex is the only medication that really works for me. I started @ 2mg, at bedtime and slowly increased to 4mg, 3x daily. The effectiveness doesn't last long (roughly 4 hours) but the dulling of pain, if only temporary, is worth it. The only side effect I've experienced, throughout years of use, is (extreme) drowsiness. The first dose of the day is the worst. It sometimes 'knocks me out.' I cannot drive or function well after taking it, -roughly an hour after taking, I become a zombie and NEED a power nap. After that, I'm Ok. I am so thankful for this medication; it's by no means a cure, but it has given me some relief where virtually nothing else has."

For Muscle Spasm "I first tried Tizanidine in 1992 in Egypt where I used to live in 1992 it worked wonders for a neck strain I suffered from. It was sold under the name Sirdalud. When I came back to Canada my general practitioner never heard of it and prescribed Flexeril which gave me horrible side effects and no relief. I had a spinal cord injury 3 years ago 2015 and since be paralyzed. The muscle in my back “rolled’ up my leg and would continue rolling up my back and down my chest making my spine lurch forward that I would yelp in pain! My fentanyl for pain and hydromorphone wouldn’t even touch this pain. I searched on internet about muscle relaxers saw Tizanidine and I instantly remembered Sirdalud from Egypt. The second day I was on Tizanidine spasms at all zero! This drug is a blessing for me and the drowsiness is not that bad. I take 4mg doue times a day. This drug has given my life back cause if those muscle spasms continued I would’ve ended my life for sure!"

Zanaflex (tizanidine) for Cluster Headaches "This works great. I take it for back spasm but also for cluster headaches. I had a stroke several years ago at age 28 years, so I am limited in what medicines I can take due to my medical history. My doctor has me take more than I need for back spasm/pain. I was warned it would make me sleepy and usually does, but in that time my headache/pain goes away almost completely. It is wonderful, especially since it is not a controlled substance. I'd rather take this for both conditions than the 100mg Demerol every 4 hours I was on for several years. Not only don't I miss the injections, but since it does not have the side effects and addiction I can do more since I can think more clearly and function more."

For Muscle Spasm "I developed a muscle spasm in my neck while taking Lamictal. Eventually the spasm did not go away---it turned into an incredibly painful condition Dystonia. The spasm has displaced my jaw and disabled me from being able to work. After developing problems with Flexeril and Cogentin, I was switched to Tizanidine. What a wonderful difference. Though the spasm or pain never stops, it reduced my involuntary movements to the point where they are not obvious, and the pain is also reduced. No bad side effect besides tiredness."

For Muscle Spasm "I use this for neck spams and fibromyalgia. I was originally prescribed 4 mgs. twice daily, but found out quickly that taking it during the day made me feel like passing out and I couldn't walk without falling; plus, if I took it and couldn't nap, I felt AWFUL. So, now (per my doctor's orders), I take 8 mgs. only at bed and it relaxes me enough that I'm out like a light within 45 minutes. I do find that I wake myself up yelling at someone I was fighting with in a dream! Scares the bejeezus out of my cat! Lol. It really helps me sleep---which has been an issue for years, because of the pain."

For Muscle Spasm "I take 8 mg a day. 2 mg morning and noon and 4 mg in the evening. Effective in spasm relieve and perfect for the night, before that I was constantly tired, but unable to rest at night of discomfort and pain in the neck. Now I am alive during the day with some exceptions, an hour after I take 2 mg pill I feel sleepy if I am relaxed. But if I am outside or active sleepiness goes away. That is not applied for 4 mg, after this does I am out."

Zanaflex (tizanidine) for Cluster Headaches "I suffer from migraines and also have difficulty falling and staying asleep. Following. A sleep study my doctor put me on Zanaflex to help me fall asleep faster and reduced random leg movements during the night. I took for it about a month and it really helped me sleep although I did have a groggy feeling in the morning that was hard to shake off. However, it aggravated my migraines so that instead of getting them 2 or 3 times a year, I got a migraine every week during the month I was taking Zanaflex, so unfortunately I had to stop taking it."

"I tried Tizanidine twice. The first time it hit me as I was driving to a doctor. I started driving off the road and almost driving into other cars. I pulled into a parking lot, called the doctor, and told him I couldn't make it and what was happening. I called my daughter at work but she said she couldn't get me. I fell asleep but I couldn't tell my dreams from reality. I didn't realize at the time that I was having a reaction to the tizanidine. The next time was worse. My legs from knees to ankles turned red from blood leaking under the skin. Went to the doctor, don't remember leaving his office and driving home. At home I fell, broke my hand, and when my daughter came in to see what happened I couldn't talk. Either nothing came out or I spoke nonsense I could think the words but there was no connection between brain and mouth. Was admitted to the up hospital then rehab for a couple of weeks. So scary. Will NEVER take ever again."

For Cluster Headaches "I have occipital Neuralgia my nerve pain has been horrible and exacerbated by insomnia. This medication has been the only one is 10 years to actually make me sleep without feeling groggy in the morning. I will say that you should take a minimal dose becuae I have felt slight hallucinations and like I’m having problems swallowing although I feel that this is more of an anxiety than actual reality. I’m in medical field so I feel comfortable saying this. I have taken it too late in night and had difficulty walking the next day and which can pretty scary. However, it is a muscle relaxer. Take as prescribed."

Zanaflex (tizanidine) for Muscle Spasm "I've been on Zanaflex for over a month now and all I can say is it really makes me sleep well. I take pain medicines for chronic low back pain and also take sleep medicines to make me sleep because the pain gets worse at night keeping me up. I wasn't happy when they gave me this instead of Soma, because I had great results with Soma. Now I can say I'm glad I did go on this medicine. I take 2 about 45 minutes before I want to turn in for the night. My spasms are relieved and I can sleep through most of the night and wake without any hangover effects. I'm glad I have this now."

For Muscle Spasm "Was diagnosed with severe muscle spasms that caused my migraines at age 16. It was an incredible amount of pain. Was put on tizanidine at 2mg every 8 hours a day. Took Par Pharmaceutical manufacturer all these years, and it has helped a lot - not all the pain is gone, but it almost completely eliminated my migraines. My insurance had to change as of this year, and almost 10 years later I had to switch pharmacies. The new pharmacy gave me Apotex manufactured tizanidine. I started having pain and migraines again, but I thought it was due to the stress of the pandemic - we were several months in at this point. It was only recently when I found some leftovers of my old par pharmaceutical tizanidine and took one out of curiousity that I realized the manufacturer change had really set me back - Apotex just doesn't work for me. Never have had bad side effects, aside from minor drowsiness when I started taking it, but that all depends on the person."
