Tinidazole "Battled bacterial vaginitis for years before I found out about Tindamax. It worked wonders my first round of it, 4 pills, 2 days. I got it again a year later, and this time ... side effects kicked in big time. My fingers were sore, severe muscle aches, red inflamed spots on my chest, fever, and headaches. It lasted 1 whole day, but the bacterial vaginitis was gone and I haven't had it since, but it gave me a yeast infection."

"So. I'm giving this drug a 10-star rating. I first took this drug a few years ago when I noticed some gross discharge and an equally gross odor down there. I had just finished my period. I work in an OB/GYN office, so I asked one of the nurses, and she just so happened to have a few samples of Tindamax. I took 4 that day and 4 the next. Guys, when I say this med is the truth, I was cleared the second night-no discharge, no odor, absolutely cured. So fast forward to now, and it seems like the last 2 months I've been getting BV right after my period. I started Flagyl, but it seemed like the discharge was coming more... My clinical manager gave me some Tindamax this morning, and I've taken the first, so I know it will start to clear up. No side effects, love it."

"Within 10 minutes of taking the pills, I could taste the metallic taste. It was not unbearable. BV was gone when I was done with the 2-day treatment. Make sure to take with a very large meal! I think this is what saved me from vomiting. I have a very sensitive stomach and only felt nauseous a couple of times, but it went away quickly. The only other side effect was that I was very fatigued."

"I started to take this after the metrogel, and the pills weren't working for me. My doctor gave me 4 pills of the tinidazole to take twice a day. The first day was okay, but the second, I felt very fatigued and sleepy. I decided to drink coffee, and that actually made it worse (I started really getting nauseous). My symptoms cleared up the next day, that's why I think it's still better than the other meds. Also, you don't have to take it for a whole week."

"I was so nervous about taking this medication because of the possible side effects and because it was such a large dose (2g/4 pills taken at once per day for 2 days), but it was totally fine and I had barely any side effects! My symptoms started going away on the second day and were completely gone by the next. I made sure to eat a heavy meal (spaghetti and bread followed by a cup of almond milk) before taking the 4 pills both nights. I never felt nauseous, but I did feel very sleepy within 2 hours...slept for almost 12 hrs both nights and didn't want to get out of bed for work the next day. Once I started the day, I felt fine all day, almost forgot I was on them. Had a slight metallic taste in my mouth the next morning but used lifesaver candies to cover it up. I avoided all lotions and makeup products that had traces of alcohol to make sure I didn't have any chance of a reaction. I liked that it was only 2 days of taking antibiotics rather than a week to 10 days."

"I've been on 500 mg twice a day for two days. I'm supposed to take it for three more days. Severe side effects. I have extreme weakness, numbness in my left hand/arm, body aches, now severe pelvic pain, which I'm hoping is just a yeast infection, nausea, food tastes weird, I can only drink water with lemon because it makes the water taste metallic, severe fatigue. My doctor has been trying everything for bacterial vaginitis on and off for the past year, and especially the past six months. I know this will work (as Flagyl did in the past), I'm just hoping the side effects go away."

Tinidazole "The nausea alone is what made me give this medication a 1. Not only are you over-the-top nauseous, but the tired feeling and nasty metallic taste are overwhelming! I will most definitely be calling my doctor tomorrow for the gel."

"I will be so glad when I wake up tomorrow and don’t have to take another pill. I have the worst heartburn and bad metallic taste in my mouth. I can’t drink enough water. I’m tired and have a bad headache. But 4 pills a day for two days was quick. I spread them out and took one every 4 hours. I feel better down there, and hopefully, the BV is gone. I’ve heard with Mirena BV is common, but I’ve changed some of my cleaning habits, as my doctor said overcleaning can be a cause as well. Hoping for no yeast infection. I have been eating a lot of Greek yogurt while taking these pills. Very expensive antibiotic, even with insurance!"

"I was asymptomatic for BV, it was only found on a Pap, but I had to take the tinidazole drug for five days, twice a day. I might’ve had itching, although it could’ve been in my head, but it went away. I didn’t have any side effects besides the metallic taste. I usually took it with meals, but not always. However, the metallic taste is awful and is only starting to go away nearly 24 hours after my last dose. Water is disgusting, and brushing your teeth only helps a little before it gets worse again."

"My doctor suspected bacterial vaginitis, so she gave me samples to use for two days. Did give me the bitter taste in my mouth, and on the 3rd day, I was very tired and weak. I also had sharp stomach pain on the 2nd day for a few hours, but possibly unrelated. Today is the 4th day, and it seems to have helped."

"I went in for a check-up and got diagnosed with a yeast infection, even though I knew I didn’t have one. I took the pill anyway. Shortly after that visit, I started showing signs of BV, and my NP called this prescription in. I had to double-check with the pharmacist that my insurance was on file because it was over $40 for 8 pills! After taking the pills, I kept getting this weird metallic taste exactly 30 minutes after taking the pills. I finally figured out it was this med! Everything tasted horrible - water was the worst! I had to come here to read reviews on side effects to ensure I wasn’t losing my mind. But so far, it seems to be working."

"So I read all the bad reviews before taking this, so I'm writing this in case it'll help someone else. To avoid any vomiting, I ate food, took a Bonine (tablet to stop nausea), ate some more food, then took 2 of the antibiotics and chugged a 16.9 oz bottle of water. I did this for the second set of two pills I took a few hours later. I had to take 4 pills daily for 2 days. This didn't help avoid the chills, headache, or the metallic taste, but I didn't vomit or have diarrhea. Not sure if it'll work out the same for you, but I want to share in case it does. Not entirely sure if it worked for me in regards to my condition."

"This medicine was literally death. I was prescribed 500 mg, taking 4 tabs a day for two days, meaning I had 2,000 mg in my system the first day, and the second day I felt horrible. I hate the feeling, it gave everything a nasty taste as hell."

"Got prescribed 2 pills daily for 5 days to treat BV that my doctor thought would not be treated by metronidazole (spelling?) or basically any vaginal creams. It's been two days now, and I'm only starting to feel better. Definitely not as bad as it was before, but also not 100% there yet. I'm surprised by the comments about metallic taste and nausea. I have a very weak stomach and take antibiotics very poorly, except this one has really been a charm. I forget that I'm even on it throughout the day. I made sure to eat big breakfasts and dinners before taking my doses. Slight headache that goes on and off throughout the day, but really nothing compared to other antibiotics and their side effects. Have yet to experience the metallic taste."

"Very fast acting and effective. I've only taken the first dose, and my symptoms have pretty much disappeared. Definitely have a weird, bitter, metallic taste, but no other side effects. That said, I'm a moderately heavy drinker, but I definitely will abstain from drinking, as is instructed. Also, make sure to take it with food, it may prevent the other, more severe side effects."

"I just got prescribed the tinidazole pill, 4 of them for two days, once a day. I took the pill, and I have this horrible taste in my mouth. At first, I thought my juice was expired, so I brushed my teeth and everything, and then drank water, and it’s like water made the taste so much worse? So yeah, I have a bitter metal taste in my mouth. I have a big fear of throwing up, so hopefully I don’t. I mean, I haven’t, and it’s been 4 hours, so I think I’m okay. This taste is just so gross."

"I get BV every few months because I have the Mirena. I've used the Metro pills and gel, they don't work. I took this (4 pills x 2 days). It made me feel so sleepy and dizzy when I woke up the next day, I had to call out of work! It made me that sick. So my doctor prescribed 2 pills daily for 7 days. On my third day, I haven't gotten any symptoms from the medicine yet. Hope this time it will clear it up finally for good..."

"I have been having bacterial vaginitis for more than 8 years. In the first year, I walked into a pharmacy, saw the drug Tinidazole, and just bought about 5 packs of 2g-4 tablets each. I took 4 tablets for 3 days without a prescription. I'm a registered nurse, and within those 3 days, I felt relieved, but because of the serious metallic taste, I reduced it to 2 tablets 2 times daily. That is how the infection resurfaced for more than 8 years. I have tried several drugs, they did not work, there was no odor, but I felt irritation sometimes. In the last seven days, I decided to risk taking it again without a prescription, I have just taken it for the 7th day, 4 tablets. I hope to take a High Vaginal Swab after this, though the side effects are terrible: metallic taste, severe headache, sometimes nausea, rapid pulse. I just hope I can complete 10 days before giving up. Lest I forget, in Nigeria, it is one of the cheapest antibiotics."

"Well, today is Wednesday. I just took 4 pills, my 1st day. So, I think I got BV because of damp swimsuits while vacationing in Cancun. We did snorkeling, swimming at the pool, and cave swimming 4 days in a row. I practically lived in swimsuits. Anyway, on top of this, I also ate something, and I've had vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. This pill takes care of it all together. As I'm typing this, I can taste the metallic taste, but it's not too bad. I just wouldn't handle more puking or diarrhea. I'll let y'all know in 3 days."

"I was concerned about the side effects, but I really wanted to stop the BV. I'm one of those that has battled with it for years. In about 12 hours, I could feel the difference down there. Now, the side effects: overall, not too horrible. Mild nausea. I can deal with that for another day."

"This medicine makes me feel like garbage. I am prescribed 8 pills for 2 days. I took one last night and felt like crap for hours. Took another one this morning and was bad for the first hour, then mild. Now time to take another, and I don't want to. This is my second round, and they made me feel worse last time. By day 3, I had to quit. That would be why I'm on it again. I'm trying to do it right this time because I do not want to have to suffer through the medicine a 3rd time! Makes me feel dehydrated. Headachy, metallic taste, nauseated, rapid heartbeat, and gassy. But it does clear up infection."

"It works. I was only prescribed 4 pills for 1 day. Treated with this med last year and again last week. I shouldn’t have waited to get treated. But what I NEED to know is... are you all iron deficient like me? Low ferritin! Is the iron deficiency causing BV, or are the iron supplements feeding the BV? I know that’s true, but what about it being the cause? No one cares enough about us BV sufferers to find our cause. I will continue with vaginal boric acid supplements to hopefully ward the BV off."

"I had intercourse with a new partner who ejaculated inside me, and I started getting a strange odor. I tested positive for Gardnerella a couple of days later. My doctor prescribed me tinidazole for 2 days, 4 pills a day. I took them all at once for 2 days. She also said I should take norethindrone, the mini pill birth control. I have dealt with BV for a year, and this was a new treatment, so I gave it a shot. After my first dose, nothing seemed to change, second dose, nothing. I just had these pounding headaches and slept for a day straight. I went back to my doctor 4 days later. She said that it takes a full week for the medication to work, even if the dosage is just for two days. After a full week, I ONLY started to smell and feel a difference. I think the pairing of the Tinidazole and birth control is what made the difference. There are a few scientific studies about how the mini pill does WONDERS for BV. I also took Balance Complex and a bucketload of probiotics."

"Had a one-night stand (not proud) and took a full STD test to rule everything else out when I was diagnosed with BV. The symptoms were agonizing. Thank God for this med. I took both doses (2gx2) on a full stomach and had no side effects, but BV odor and discharge were eliminated. Now a week later, still free and clear. I also put in boric acid suppositories for the 3 days post-medication and began OTC vaginal probiotics (Nature's Way brand). I am so happy! You take normal vaginal health for granted until you have BV!"

"If I could give this a negative star, I would! WORST side effects ever! So sleepy, don't want to do anything and can't keep anything down! I finished my two days of 4 pills, and on the second day, I started feeling very sick, and now it's the day after, and I can't keep anything down, extremely nauseous, thrown up 5 times! Please eat a LARGE meal before taking this!"
