Telmisartan "My doctor switched me to Micardis after other drugs failed. He added Bystolic (nebivolol) later as dual drug treatment. They’re working well together. Just measured BP 106/64 is good. I’m a 62-year-old man."

"Eight days ago, I was put on 40 mg to start, and just a few hours after taking the first dose, I started to feel awful. Strange sensation in my mouth, crippling malaise/lethargy, disturbed sleep patterns. It destroyed my daily life. The doctor who prescribed it told me to stop immediately after I mentioned the symptoms, and after 36 hours, I'm starting to feel better. That was a hard lesson to get back on the exercise bike and walk more. I know BP meds are tricky, and each patient reacts differently, so I cannot say this is a bad choice for all, but be wary and don't be afraid to tell your doc it is not working or is not tolerable."

"I started taking telmisartan after my valsartan was recalled. It's been two years now since experiencing extremely high levels of side effects from this medication. Vertigo feeling daily, muscle cramps in the back, legs, and feet. Nausea feeling and stomach cramps. Both medications seem to have the same effects on me. Until my valsartan recall, I would not have known just how bad these medications were. After reading and following the new and health reports, I have now stopped telmisartan. My doctor put me on Coversyl. I am now free from all these nasty side effects."

"No weight gain, no side effects, reduced blood pressure. What I didn't know about telmisartan is it also reduces urate and improves kidney function. I couldn't figure out why my kidney function improved and my high urate levels were finally normal again until I read the PubMed article. Anyone with high blood pressure and high urate levels should Google search to find the PubMed article 'Telmisartan Attenuates Uric Acid-Induced Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition in Renal Tubular Cells' then talk to their doctor."

"GENERIC is NOT the same as Micardis. I was taking 40 mg Micardis for over 15 years. No problems other than some minor sinus issues. Insurance made me change to GENERIC telmisartan, and my BP is out of control, and I have additional side effects. My dr increased my dosage to 80 mg, but my BP continues to increase. My dr is trying to petition the insurance company to allow me to return to Micardis, but it seems that is not eventful."

"Cardiologist started me at an 80 mg dose, which lowered my blood pressure, but dizziness and vertigo were so bad it was not worth it. Did some research on herbs and found old garlic extract that people raved about with similar conditions. I take a 1000 mg tablet each day. I reduced my telmisartan to 40 mg recently, along with my garlic. Vertigo has decreased considerably. I am planning on going off telmisartan shortly to see if I can maintain a 129/69 with just the garlic tablets."

"I had a bit of dizziness at first, which passed, no big deal. Then had a period which was great for a while. Unfortunately, I developed awful chest pain and reflux. The belching is nonstop. I rarely drink and only have one cup of coffee a day. No fried food or sugar. Also, gallbladder pain and pain on the left side under my ribs. I’ve gone off the telmisartan, I feel so awful."

"Worst experience EVER with telmisartan. I have been on the same for 12 months and experienced all the side effects, which have been very unforgiving. It worked by lowering my BP in the first two months of taking it, then it was a wrap! I regret the day it was prescribed for me."

"It does lower blood pressure, but my memory is bad. Even with 20 triggers to remember, I just move on and forget. I have aches and pains like an old man, and every so often it feels like the alien is busting out of my chest. Sleep is no problem as I can drop off in a second. I now have a low, low tolerance to alcohol and don't drink at all and feel like I have a hangover. I can still function sexually, but have taken an ED pill, and blood pressure dropped to 63. OMG. I don't think this is me, so I will try a beta blocker as I think I have stress-related BP."

"I’m a 235 lb 28 yr old male on HRT who lifts weights. BP went up this winter, and I couldn’t get it down. So I started taking 20 mg telmisartan a week ago. It actually increased my BP higher than it’s ever been. I feel tight in the chest and sometimes feel my heartbeat while I’m resting. Going to stop using it today."

"I have been using Telmikind CR 40 mg due to high BP. But since I have been taking it, my BP is on the lower side now, but I got the side effect of decreased sex drive to the point it was almost completely gone. I visited my MD, then he suggested changing Telmikind to another strength. I hope it will work without the side effects."

"I've been on Micardis (telmisartan) for 15 years. It works, but I do experience side effects of being unsteady when I walk, and periodically (every 4-5 years) I need to change meds for 90-180 days because ankles swell. My Dr. and I return to telmisartan because of its overall effectiveness and kidney protection, but the swelling pattern is consistent, having now occurred 3-4 times with discontinuing use for a while resolving the swelling."

"I am only writing this review because I saw the top post with 88 likes saying that he had 'high' BP when it is only 139/90; that's normal BP (lol). You shouldn't need to take blood pressure pills on such low numbers unless you are over 60 years old and non-Asian. For Asians, a few Asian doctors said similar things claiming that 150/100 is normal and should not require the usage of medication. As for myself, I am a 40-year-old Asian and I recently started taking telmisartan 80mg because my blood pressure was 200/150 at rest. I was doing okay for a few months before making a trip to the doctor's office. I had multiple unconscious sleep attacks a day for over 3 weeks before I booked an appointment at the doctor's office. Even if I didn't go to the doctor's office, I would still be okay, but my privacy would be reduced to none as I don't know when I am going to pass out unconscious. Taking the meds gave me fatigue."

"I am 47 years old and recently diagnosed with high blood pressure stage 1. I was first given Combisar 160 by my doctor, and I was feeling dizzy, a side effect, so I was recently prescribed Thelma H 80, and the medicine does wonders. The blood pressure is always in the 128 to 135 range / 80 to 85. It has side effects like numbness in my hand and a tingling effect. Apart from that, I do have shortness of breath occasionally and dizziness sometimes. I guess it keeps blood pressure in control."

"I am a 56 yo male, who switched from generic (Accord Pharmaceutical) 40 mg/25 mg Olmesartan HCTZ to generic (Glenmark Pharmaceutical) 80 mg Telmisartan, separately taking 25 mg chlorthalidone. I started the first week at 1/2 pill (40 mg), upping to 80 mg. Aside from headache and occasional dizziness, no other side effects. However, after two weeks, my BP did not decrease and actually increased (180/125). Read generic may not be as effective as name brand, as others reviewed when insurance made them switch. Was useless for me - disappointed, as I was hoping this would work, given other benefits of Telmisartan. Going back to Olmesartan HCTZ, which did cause sinus problems, heavy legs, and lower back pain (someone noted Claritin did the trick, so I will try). However, Olmesartan HCTZ managed BP to ave. 150/100. Adding a beta blocker at night (Nebivolol) to see if I can get into normal range. Also recently diagnosed with sleep apnea, so plan to treat."

Telmisartan "Took Micardis 80 mg once a day for 3 weeks. It didn't lower my BP at all. You would think a pill that costs $233.00 per month would do something to lower your BP."

"Telmisartan worked great at first. There was a dizziness that passed eventually, and then I had a couple of months that were just fine. Side effects then started showing up. Diarrhea first. Then a cough started, which continued to intensify. Chest pains radiate in every direction, stomach pain, belching, reflux, back pain, intense hip pain, and my feet and legs ache. Weird abdominal pain and not sleeping well. I am a fit, very active person who works out 6 days a week. I feel awful. Did lower my blood pressure with random spikes, though."
