"After 6 months of severe flare ups primarily in hands, knees and shoulders, I was diagnosed with Seronegative Spondyloarthritis. After the first month on sulfasalazine with basically no relief, I started getting great results. Only been on this for 2 months but have have had virtually no flares up for 4 weeks. Truly hope it continues and hope for good results for anyone facing these conditions. I had no idea how nasty RA and similar conditions were until I got it myself."

For Psoriatic Arthritis "Have been on sulfasalazine now for approx 6 weeks, 2000mg/day. Not seeing much improvement, joints still swell badly. Pain in shoulder kept me awake tonight. Acid reflux, which I had prior to this medication, has significantly worsened. Overall not pleased with sulfasalazine."

For Psoriatic Arthritis "Needed 2500mg per day to get to a comfortable level of my wide spread enthesitis. This worked better than methotrexate 20mg injections. Cyclosporin and Leflunomide had even less benefit. No side effects."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I've taken sulfasalazine for a few years and it really worked well for my rheumatoid arthritis. Recently, I've experienced swelling in my feet and lower legs. I'm wondering if this could be a side effect of the medication or the RA."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "My husband has been on Sulfasalazine 2 gms a day since November 2016 for his severe RA. He developed RA in January of last year and was on Methorexate for 8 months when it was discontinued due to severe Bacteriaemia. He is also taking Minocycline. He had a probable flare at the beginning of May this year, six months after starting both drugs. At that time he also developed Atrial Fib that reverted on drugs. He was prescribed Flecainide which he took for two weeks but discontinued it due to side effects. We blamed that for his loss of appetite and weight loss - 36 lbs in six weeks. It's now three weeks since he stopped the heart drug. I'm now thinking it might be the Sulfasalazine. His RA symptoms are gone apart from a little stiffness."

For Crohn's Disease "Came down with crohns disease a year ago. Dr put me on mesalamine at $400.00 a month. Told her l needed a cheaper med. Put me on sulfasalazine at 3000 mg a day but only $16.00 a month. Works just as well if not better than mesalamine."

For Crohn's Disease "I took this drug every single day for 20 years and had no problems or side effects at all. I cannot get any Doctor to Prescribe it because they say it is too dangerous I say they make NO money so they want you to do the IV's that cost a fortune if you do not have insurance."

For Crohn's Disease "Have been on several medications over the years. This being one of them. Was taken off about 9 years ago. Went to many others over next 6 years. Was put on lialda 2 years ago with worsening symptoms. More pain and distended belly. Went to emergency room for 4 the time in three months. Asked my doctor about putting me back on this. I shouldn't be having this many issues. Its been 2 days on salfasazine cypro, flagyl and zofran. Stomach is half its size. Way less pain and eating chicken and stars soup. Yeah."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I've been on sulfasalazine for 4 weeks, I am taking 2 in the morning and 2 at night, with methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine. The first 2 weeks were great as only on one morning and one in the evening but since using this I've had more flare up worse than ever, like when I got when I first got R.A 15 yrs ago in my 30s. I feel so ill so going to cut down to 1 morning one evening. I can't move with pain in my shoulders and rib cage. Just want to be pain free again."

"My medical conditions are Polymyalgia rheumatica/temperal arteritis. I have tried methotrexate ,leflunomide ,azathioprine now been taking 4 sulfasalazine daily for about 6 weeks still hoping for a significant change in pain I’m getting in buttocks lower back and muscles at back of thighs and bursa joints. Possibly some changes but inconsistent, my nurse says it’s 3 months before it reaches full potential so I’m continuing with hope ! No serious side effects apart from loss of appetite and sore mouth I’m hoping this will eventually settle along with a noticeable improvement although I find I get extremely tired and exhausted at the moment. I’m still taking 20 mg prednisolone at the moment until symptoms settle down . Hopefully this will work I have few options left to try"

For Ulcerative Colitis "Made me incredible dizzy to the point I had to have my hand to be touching a wall when I would be standing. Even sitting everything was spinning. That was the worst side effect. The medication didn't have time to work (only on it for a few days) because the side effects were too severe."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Been on sulfasalazine now for 7 weeks, along with methotrexate. Started off at 1 daily increasing to 6 daily by week 6. Feel rubbish, nausea, headaches, night sweats, poor sleep and generally exhausted. RA pain has improved but not at this cost. Need to find something else"

For Psoriatic Arthritis "I was recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis at the age of 45. Very early stages according to my doctor. He placed me on Sulfasalazine. Started 1 pill per day for 2 weeks then 2 a day the next week then 3x per day the following week. When I made it to the 3x per day I had a terrible reaction. Severe nausea, headaches, and sensitivity to light and noticed I felt weak and was about to go to the emergency room. I stopped immediately and felt better within days. I'm diabetic and tested my blood sugar and did notice a massive drop on this medication. The symptoms I was having could have been low blood sugar. The sulfasalazine may have reacted to my metformin to cause low blood sugar. I was switched to Plaquenil."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I take oxycodone for 3 types of Arthritis and all my doctors thought SULFASALAZINE will help me. I'm also starting Prolia injection on October 6th. I'm already on nausea pills so doing ok there. So far main side effect is I am drowsy, and hurting all over but only been on one 500mg pill for 2 days and going continue and hope it helps. I have terrible inflammation all over and a lot of inflammation in my feet. They are not swollen though it's inside, going get cortisone injections in both feet October 6th also they've always helped although this time my pain is more in my toes like rubber bands are around them, hopefully all I'm doing will give me relief. I try to get out everyday with a mask on for some walking. If I stay home I get to stiff, I also fractured my hip in December."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Maintenance "I was on another med that was new on market and is very expensive. I requested my doctor to prescribe an older, effective med that would be covered by my insurance. I've been taking this for 6–7 years, it's been working well and is covered. The only downside is I have to take it four times a day. That's not really bad but I do have to make sure to stay on schedule."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Maintenance "In 1987, I was diagnosed with moderate ulcerative colitis. I had blood in my stool, constant diarrhea, and experienced weight loss - from 100 lbs. to 85 lbs. My new doctor prescribed Watson sulfasalazine. It worked and I experienced no side effects! I still take it, but in a smaller dosage - from 4 pills twice a day to 2 pills twice a day. The brand just changed to Teva USA. I have been in remission for about 25 years!"

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Diagnosed 2010 lots medications and wore ear muffs daily. In 2017 I began methotrexate and became ill along with neurotin and 2 Tylenol 2 times a day with ear muffs. Now after week 1 of just the sulfa I stop the ear muffs but when I got to week 2 and added the hydrochloriquine I needed the ear muffs again. My head hurts bad, constipated and with hair loss and more pain. So I stopped the hydrochloriquine. Today I took a pill called Ultimate Immunity along with Sulfasalizine 2 pills 2 times a day, 1prednisone, 1folic acid. I make a mustard pack and put under my feet at bed time and 1 fiber capsule no ear muffs. The moral to this is finding what works for RA and how to treat the side affects. I put mustard on a paper towel in put in the pit of my feet at night for the headaches. The fiber is for constipation the ultimate immunity is for the immune system and the rest is prescribe for the RA and hair loss I'm 2 months in and LOVING IT. In my opinion hydrochloriquine stops the sulfasalazine from working"

For Ulcerative Colitis "I had never heard something postive about this medication for colitis but I had to find out myself. From day 2 I started using sulfasalazine I got super watery bowel movement. It worsened over time including blood. My doctor told that it had to take around a month to be fully working so I kept taking them. I had to go 25-30 times and even at night. The bloating started and there was so much gas in my stomach I was in real pain. On the 4th week I got a high fever. I stopped the medication, but the fever lasted a week and I had a mild stomach bleeding. When I started it again I got a fever within 6 hours. Also my hair was falling out in chunks and my beard thinned out heavily. It worsened my life in the past 2 months. I was taking 2000mg"

I got worse and was unable to walk, after spending 8 days in hospital, stopping sulfasalazine I was able to walk out of hospital, no headaches, no head spinning I'm awaiting test results from having an MRIscan,CTscan, and lumbar puncture, but I feel back to normal"

For Crohn's Disease "I was getting gastric blockages quite often that caused a lot of pain and put me in the hospital on more than one occasion. I wasn’t diagnosed with crohns until after my surgery. After surgery my GI doctor gave me a couple of prescriptions for medicine that wasn’t covered under my insurance and I could not afford. We settled on sulfasazaline. I have been taking this stuff for 8 months now. I go to the restroom now more than ever. I noticed that if I would miss a dose or two, I didn’t have to use the restroom so much. This medicine caused bloating, strange noises in my abdomen, constant diarrhea, and abdominal pain. I recently took myself off the drug and feel my best since surgery. I’m waiting for my next appointment with my GI doctor to discuss other medicine or no medicine at all."

"The first year sulfasalazine felt like a miracle cure for my Ankylosing Spondylitis absolutely no back hip and knee pains at all Now I’m getting a bout or two knee pains that come and go although thankfully still no Back and Hip pains What is happening now and quite often stomach problems including indigestion and reflux My Doctors seem to completely ignore my case possibly because I’m over seen by London Euston hospital and getting to talk to anyone at the hospital is all but impossible If you are in early stage of disease this drug will really help"
