Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "Do NOT drink with this medicine. They need to stop marketing that it is acceptable. I took the medicine around 6:30. Had a few drinks around 8:30-10:30. Was then up from 12 to 5 a.m., projectile vomiting and using the restroom at the same time. Worst night of my life. Imagine throwing up tiny granules that get stuck in your throat/nose! Trust me. It’s not worth it. I haven’t tried the medicine before without drinking, so I cannot comment on its effectiveness or side effects. Just trust me, please, do not drink!"

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "So I took my Solosec packet last night around 10 o'clock in some applesauce, it honestly looked like so many little beads, so I mixed in another applesauce (big mistake). The taste was disgusting, but I sat there and chugged water after every spoonful. I felt okay. Nobody told me not to drink, I guess, because I’m only 19, but I decided to have ONE mixed drink, those usually don’t get me anywhere, but listen, I was heavily buzzed. So I go to lay down, say about 12 a.m. I wake up at 2 a.m. with immense stomach pains and start vomiting in the closest trash can for a good 20 minutes. Now definitely all the alcohol and everything is out of my system, I go back to bed. Nope, I wake up at 3:30 a.m. and do it all over, and then again at 5 a.m. Now there is absolutely nothing in my system, not even the water I tried to sip on at 3. I’m scared to eat or drink anything until this is out of my system. I DO NOT RECOMMEND."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I have struggled with recurring BV for the last 5 or more years. I've used every medication under the sun and was excited about a new one-day treatment. Insurance didn't cover it, so I spent $200 and had to wait 3 days for the pharmacy to get it in stock. I mixed it with vanilla yogurt, and the taste was pretty intolerable, but I got it down quick and hoped for the best. The next day I had two beers and vomited. I had headaches, extreme nausea, dizziness, and hot flashes for the entire three days following. I don't tolerate oral metronidazole well either, so I would have dealt with the side effects if it had actually worked 100%. I'm on day four since taking it now, and the BV has improved, but I can tell it isn't gone completely. Rather than waiting for it to come back with a vengeance, I had to start with the gel, which I don't like, but at least it works. I wouldn't take this medication again because of the high cost, lack of availability, taste, and I suffered for days and still got stuck with the gel."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "The taste was so horrible. It has been 48 hours since I took this medicine, and I still feel horrible nausea and weakness. Not to mention the horrible taste that’s still in my mouth. I will never take this again."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "Well, I took my first dose of Solosec about an hour and a half ago. And then chose to read all of the reviews on here. I mixed mine with chocolate pudding. It wasn’t delicious by any means, but it wasn’t unbearable either. I am hoping to not experience the side effects that some have listed. So far, so good."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this medication 6 days ago and am unfortunately still having a really strange side effect of feeling like I’m sucking on a sour penny all the time. My tongue is yellow and tastes horribly sour and bitter, especially after eating a meal. My doctor's office has not heard of this as a side effect yet, but hopefully I’m not alone... I experienced nausea, fatigue, and a very strange bout of (oddly painless) diarrhea on day 4 that snuck up on me out of nowhere after eating a poke bowl from a place I always eat poke from with no issues - perhaps this medication and raw fish do not mix well? Anyway, I’d never take it again due to the weird yellow tongue, bitter taste, and dry mouth. As far as the BV symptoms go, I’m not really sure if it cured it. I’ve never had BV before and I originally went in for a yeast infection and got the result of yeast and BV to treat. Good luck to everyone taking it for the first time."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "Horrible taste! I did exactly as instructed. I put the granules in yogurt. I didn’t chew, but could taste a bitter medicine. It was very hard to finish. Truly awful. I’d rather take a pill for multiple days. My doctor's office really pushed this. My insurance would not pay. There is an online coupon that brought the $323 cost down to $25."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this drug in December of 2018. It was disgusting tasting, which I didn't care about, and I got every single one of the side effects listed. The worst part of it though is from then until this day in 2020, I have had recurring yeast infections, 3 UTIs, and BV again. There has been absolutely no changes in my life that would lead to this, so I'm worried the medication made this happen. So now I'm just going to try to spread the word and hope that people read reviews BEFORE taking this medication. They should also check each of the ingredients and see if they're sensitive to any of them. It's only a few years old. Perhaps even try something more established."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "This was an absolute nightmare. It says you can drink with it, so after 12 hours, I had one drink and threw up for 30 hours straight. Could not eat at all, had to take off work, and wasn’t keeping any fluid, so I had to get an emergency IV. I missed my flight and hotel I paid for that was for the day after. It feels like pure poison. They only give everyone that $25 card because it costs 60 cents to make, and we’re all human guinea pigs for this company. Absolutely despicable. Do not take this!! It will screw you up for a whole weekend. Also, keep in mind that the people rating this above a 4, even said they just took it and will see what happens!! Didn’t even get the bad end of the stick because my symptoms started 12 hours after."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "This drug is extremely new, barely covered by any insurance, and was pushed hard by my doctor. The taste is indescribably bad, which would not matter if it worked, but it did not. I have no sensitivity to any drug and can use just about anything. I am not sure if this thing cured my BV since four days later, I'm going back to the doc so she can take care of every one of the first four listed side effects of the drug, too gross to mention here. It seems easier because it is one dose, but it truly isn't worth it."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "So all of these negative reviews are for people that threw up because they drank alcohol or because the taste was bad. The product works - just don't drink and don't expect it to taste good. Just don't drink. Imagine if everybody on here that reviewed it didn't drink - it would all be 10s. In less than 1 day, the BV cleared up."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "Took Solosec 2 days ago. This was my 4th round of antibiotics for my BV this time and no relief. I am so disappointed and upset that I cannot find something that works. Took Clindamycin for 7 days, then 2 rounds of Tindamax-which actually has the worst side effects. Now the Solosec does not seem to be working. I have been taking probiotics orally for 4 months, and when I try vaginal probiotics, it irritates the BV more. I'm at my wit's end and super depressed about this."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "OMG, I took this medication at 2 pm with yogurt, read up on whether I’d be able to drink on it, and what I read said there were no issues with drinking alcohol. So, later that evening, at around 6 pm, I had some champagne and a sandwich... about 4 drinks total. I went to bed at 10 pm, and by 12 am, I woke up with a strong desire to throw up-tried to breathe it away and no success, so I had to run to the bathroom because it went from a maybe I’m going to throw up... to a, I’m going to throw up right now! After vomiting, I thought all was over-BOY, was I wrong! I continued to vomit about every 30 mins to every hour until 4 am!!!! It was a nightmare! I continued to vomit even when I had nothing left inside of me-just dry heaving, it was so awful! I hate this medication-not sure if it worked as I just took it two days ago... but I’ve been feeling weak (like when you get the flu) since then-and I’m very physically active and healthy."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this medication yesterday. It was horrible. I mixed it with pudding and tried the first spoon and was almost gagging just trying to swallow it. I ended up drawing up the rest in a 20 ml oral syringe and took it like that. It was much easier to tolerate that way. I felt a little nauseated, but I was okay, so I thought. By the end of the night, I had a very metallic taste. I went to work today, I felt okay. Then, around 10 a.m., I developed a severe headache, nausea, bloated, and dizzy. I had so much indigestion, it was horrible. I ended up leaving work early because I felt so sick. I came home, took Pepto and Nexium, and fell asleep. I just woke up, I feel a little better, still bloated, metallic taste, and a very sour stomach. I feel like BV is slightly improved already, but it’s the burning in my stomach and taste that I can’t get over. FYI, I’m not a complainer. I have been through a lot of health problems and have taken a lot of medications, but this is honestly the worst medication I have ever taken."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this medicine mixed in cherry yogurt. It was absolutely disgusting, but I was desperate. The taste is horrible, and the yogurt didn’t mask the taste one bit. I got my prescription at Kroger Pharmacy, and they only charged me $25, which isn’t bad. I made sure to take it right before bed so I would sleep through any potential side effects. So far, I haven’t experienced any."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "This is the only medication I will take for this problem. It works fast, and I can tell the difference after the 1st 24 hrs. It tastes nasty, but what medicine tastes good? Put it in your yogurt and swallow!! Don't chew it, just SWALLOW!! NO MORE using creams for 5-7 days and no pill twice a day for 5-7 days... I'll choose this every single time! Use online coupons to get it cheap."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I got BV for the first time and got prescribed this stuff. I was kinda nervous going into it, but I got my dairy-free yogurt and poured the packet in the cup. I wasn’t sure if I should mix it and realized I shouldn’t after my first bite. It was extremely bitter for me, and after the third bite, I started to gag, and my body rejected the idea of swallowing. I haven’t thrown up in 12 years (it’s an irrational fear), and I was just praying I wouldn’t throw it up. I got most of it down, but there were still some beads left, so hopefully, I ate enough to cure my symptoms."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I have taken this medicine on two different occasions, and they worked for me both times. I mixed it in with applesauce and swallowed it without taking any bites. I also took it on a full stomach, so it would prevent me from being nauseous just in case. Other than the unpleasant taste of the medication, I was absolutely fine. Sometimes you can work yourself up over reading other people's reviews, as everybody's bodies will not have the same reaction to a medication. On the other hand, I have tried other medications like metronidazole, which gave me horrible headaches along with making me feel extremely nauseous, so imagine dealing with that for 7 days straight. So with that being said, I would definitely recommend Solosec to anyone. This one-time dose is amazing, but the choice is yours."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this about 5 years ago because of a case of recurring BV (compliments of my IUD). It worked, but it came back later on. It took me a while to convince my doctor to take out my IUD because he was insisting it wasn’t the problem (turns out it was). Then I was free of BV for years, and for some reason, it came back in May. Tried every OTC med and nothing worked. My doctor said I could either take Flagyl or Solosec. I was super scared of taking the latter, so I did vaginal Flagyl, which didn’t work. After some test results that showed I had Atopobium vaginae and Gardnerella vaginalis and no more Doderlein, I decided to give it a go because whatever the side effects, it couldn’t be worse than having a vagina that smells like rotten meat. I took it, and… a few hours later, the BV slowly cleared. Did not experience any side effects - I did not drink alcohol for about 5 days just to be on the safe side."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "Do not under any circumstances be convinced by your doctor to take this medicine! Like others, I was gagging the entire time I was attempting to finish my pudding. I was also very lightheaded and nauseous afterward. I had diarrhea for the rest of that day. I emailed the company to ensure that there were no other contraindications I should be aware of. I mean, I felt terrible! It’s been longer than a week, and they never got back to me. Obviously, I called my doctor that day, knowing Solosec reps wouldn’t reply ASAP. They told me to wait it out and call back if severe symptoms persisted. Okay, sure. To my surprise, they never replied at all. I continued having symptoms of upset stomach/nausea the next day. This is a new drug that’s being pushed to patients. I read the fine print stating that they have not ruled out carcinogenic effects. Lol, wow. I always take the reviews of drugs I see online with a grain of salt. This time I didn’t even check the reviews, and I paid for it."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "Ok, so I wanted to write this review to help everyone who is nervous about taking this, as I was after reading the scary reviews. First off, I had absolutely zero side effects, I felt completely normal. The medicine does taste gross, but I took it with yogurt, and it wasn't a big deal. I did not drink alcohol for a week just to be sure. The BV cleared, but it did give me a yeast infection, which I treated with over-the-counter medication. Unfortunately, my BV came back after my next period, but I am going to try boric acid suppositories this time. Best of luck."

Secnidazole for Bacterial Vaginosis "I wish I had read these reviews prior to taking this medicine! I, like so many others, was just desperate for something that would actually work to cure my BV after 2 years. HOWEVER... I took it at 10 a.m. Fine all day until I had an alcoholic drink at night. Got so nauseous I went home and to bed. Woke up feeling bad. I haven’t been able to leave the couch. Still feeling nauseous and blah. Guess I was a lucky one since I didn’t vomit. But I can’t imagine this continuing for days. Not to mention it was the worst tasting thing, and I struggled to get it down in the 30 minutes. My BV seems a bit better today. But they need to market this truthfully. It DOES change the taste of your food. And is NOT alcohol friendly. Crazy to say I’d rather have metronidazole."
