"I've been on this drug, risperidone, for maybe a month, and it helps a lot with my anxiety, but I still get anxious when I think about/ am in social situations. My depression is manageable, and I'm having fewer suicidal thoughts! I have a healthy appetite, though, I need to go weigh myself to see if I've gained any weight. I take 1 mg during the day and 1 mg at night."

"I was prescribed risperidone in addition to duloxetine for moderate to severe depression. My main symptoms were continuing depression, apathy, amotivation, difficulty concentrating, and exhaustion. Fluoxetine and sertraline were the other antidepressants I had no response to. I had also previously taken aripiprazole in combination with sertraline, which unfortunately did not help. When I had no response to duloxetine alone after three months, my psychiatrist recommended adding risperidone. The only effects risperidone caused were negative. Fatigue increased significantly on risperidone, even with continued time on the medication. My daily dosage ranged from 0.25 mg to 3 mg. My motivation, apathy, and concentration also got worse. Risperidone seemed only to worsen my depression. I discontinued this medication after more than a month to move along to other depression treatments. The side effects were simply unmanageable. Hopefully, others have a better experience than me."

"I suffered from acute insomnia and depression due to trauma and was put on this risperidone by a psychiatrist. Got my first dose just before bedtime and woke up at midnight with the most terrible panic attack (first time in my life). The panic attack basically lasted until the evening of the following day, varying in intensity. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. The psychiatrist changed my prescription to Seroquel (Quetiapine), which agreed much better with me. I used it for about 2 years until my circumstances improved and have been off all medication for 7 years now. I have never before or since had a panic or anxiety attack, so this was definitely due to the medication. I was told it was a very low percentage side effect."

"I've been taking it for roughly a month now, and the difference was night and day. Risperidone was actually prescribed for a variety of my issues, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and Tourette's. I'm on a relatively low dose, and the effectiveness is incredible, it's helped my depression tremendously, and I actually have the energy to get out of bed in the morning. I've stopped having anxiety attacks as often, I haven't had a manic episode yet, and my tics from my Tourette's are actually manageable and not debilitating. There are some days I won't have a single tic, and I practically forget I even have them. Everyone around me has commented that I seem different in a good way, I'm happier, I have more energy, and I seem more in control of my life, and I couldn't agree more."

"Nefarious medication. My depression worsened due to the fact that my concentration capacity decreased drastically. Not to mention diarrhea and the highest prolactin. On the other hand, it is confirmed that risperidone shrinks the volume of the brain, my psychiatrist did not deny it."

"I have inattentive ADHD, but at the time they were thinking that I have depression and gave me this + Fevarin, took them for about two months. Results: personality change, depersonalization, my emotions are dumbed down. Years have passed, it is better, but I still have the effects. Maybe it helps someone, but be careful, or you can end up like me. The thing I regret the most in my life..."

"Bad experience. Psych used it to 'augment' mirtazapine. Wake feeling drugged and nauseous with headache, takes all day to feel able to function. Don't know if it's the combo or just not the right meds for me. He wants to try olanzapine next, I'm very reluctant. Need a better doctor, I think."

"Been on Risperidone LS 3 mg for a year for manic depression. I also take lithium and an antidepressant. I tried quetiapine, but it made me sleep all day long. Risperidone has gotten rid of my suicidal thoughts, manic episodes, and constant self-talk/conversations. The only weird side effect is that I have these very long-lasting, ultra-realistic dreams. It's almost like you are still awake. Unfortunately, all I have are major nightmares since the past 20 years or so. And now they are very, very real."

"I had asked for a lithium-like category of mood stabilizer and was prescribed risperidone. I still question what motivated my prescriber. Within five days, I was exhibiting novel symptoms (delusions about how the ocean was a metaphor for my deceased parent); two days after that, I was fully psychotic, with paranoid components to boot. I spent the next two years mending my fractured life. It was, hands down, the worst period of my existence. Please, be cautious with this medication. It is one of the more robust antipsychotics on the market, and any off-label use must be evaluated very carefully."

"I don’t like and I do like risperidone. It helped me with some anxiety and some depression, but I would always be drowsy and normally completely emotionless. But I hated feeling sleepy, so I stopped taking them, and my body didn’t like having to naturally deal with emotions and depression. So then I went into a deep depression, but natural remedies for depression are a lot better than risperidone."

"Risperidone is the second antipsychotic I've taken after Rexulti, and I think it works in lessening the noise in your brain, making you more productive and stable, etc. However, taking this drug makes me unable to stay well awake for more than 12 hours, and I get immensely tired right at sundown even though I take it at 9 P.M. and have an 8h-9h sleep schedule. It also raised my prolactin levels to 7 times bigger than the highest normal quantity and caused a benign tumor in my pituitary gland, of which I have no sense of if it will last forever or not. I also feel slower, but that might be because of the anticonvulsant I take. Overall, I'm scared for the long-term risks and think about letting go of this drug as soon as I can. But it helps, it really does! And that's the hard part."

"Benefits: I can focus better, I can sleep well, and I am more comfortable with talking despite my social anxiety and major depression. 1 mg works better with fewer side effects for me. Side effects: headaches and gaining 25 pounds. Still, the pros are more than the cons, so this medication is a blessing. I am happier."

Risperidone "Take 1.0 mg to help augment my antidepressant. It helps my paranoia and my racing thoughts and helps me be calm. I love this drug. Recommend to anyone whose antidepressant alone does not work."

"I am taking 0.5 mg risperidone with 0.25 mg clonazepam for my insomnia, anxiety, and depression. It works well for me, and I take 30 mg of Ritalin in the morning and 20 mg of fluoxetine in the evening for my ADHD and OCD. This combination of medicine works very well, nice feeling to me."
