"Poor lifestyle and extreme stress sent my BP soaring to 196/132. I was immediately prescribed Ramipril. I took the medicine at 4 pm, and by 10 pm, I took my BP reading, it was 153/95. Still some work to do to bring it down, but for day one, not bad at all. I use a wireless cuff BP machine, Qardio, which tracks all the readings I make, which helps me guide the GP. It also tells me if I have an irregular heartbeat. Good investment."

"Been on it 16 months. Got to 5mg dosage. Brought blood pressure down from 198/101 high to 138/85, but with my last blood test, my kidney function number had fallen to 34 which got me very worried. I'm having to stop taking it. I've done further research on it only to find out that it affects kidney function because it's processed through the kidneys and that it's not well tolerated by black people, which I happen to be one."

"After being diagnosed with very high blood pressure, I've been taking Ramipril for 2 months now. The side effects I am experiencing are 1/ I get very tired in the evening at about 8 pm. 2/ I am beginning to get a bit forgetful and confused from time to time. 3/ Sometimes I get this tingling sensation in my hands and wrists (it feels like a mild electric shock). But apart from that, the drug is manageable and doesn't really interfere with my day-to-day life."

"I have been on ramipril for over 2 years. I ran out almost two weeks ago! Since then I have had much better days and am content with my life. Before this, I was incredibly lethargic, depressed, and not interested in anything. I don't think it's a coincidence! I will talk to my GP and find out what she thinks. All I can say is the change is fantastic and dramatic."

"14 years I have been on this medication, and at first, it worked, blood pressure came down reasonably well, but 4 years ago, it started climbing back up again, and I saw my GP, who took me off it and instead prescribed Candesartan. My cough has gone, and my blood pressure is now the lowest it has been for years."

"Am taking daily 2.5 mg Ramipril capsules, Warfarin (5.5 mg), and Simvastatin (10 mg). During this period of about 1 year, I have suffered increasingly from gastric pains located at the base of the sternum. The pain comes on between 3 and 4 a.m., despite taking Lansoprazole, which confers protection for only about 3 hours. I suspected the Ramipril as the cause of the acid flush in the early hours. Have tried stopping the Ramipril. Result: gastric pains gone, but blood pressure uncomfortably high! Not even taking Lansoprazole."

"Interestingly, my high blood pressure was discovered during my regular blood donations. The intake staff recommended that I consult my doctor. My doctor prescribed 2.5 mg ramipril (brand name: Tritace) once daily. I have been taking it religiously for 5 years now. Blood pressure is good. No side effects. The donation center now says that my blood can only be used for adults, not children."

"Been on ramipril for the past 8 months and also taking felodipine. Before medication, my blood average BP was 160/80, now it's 110/50. I'm not having any side effects either. Took about 1 week for it to become effective."

"I was really apprehensive about starting ramipril, but it has been fine so far. My BP has come down immediately, and I feel better. Within 20 minutes of taking the first pill, I unexpectedly felt a brief moment of a feeling of calm. I am fortunate to so far not have gotten the cough side effect. I get a very mild headache in the day sometimes, which I can live with, and I hope that will go away in time. I am only on a 1.25 mg dose at this point. I’ll check my bloods and BP in a couple of weeks. Overall, a week in - I feel glad I am taking this medication because my BP is now in the normal range."

"I am 72. I was fit and active until Covid. I developed high blood pressure 4 years ago, and my doctor prescribed Amlodipine 5 mgs, it worked well. Sadly, last year I developed side effects: frequent palpitations, chest pain, swollen ankles, and chronic fatigue. My GP stopped them in December 2024. My blood pressure increased to 170/98, and 3 weeks ago, another GP prescribed Ramipril 1.25 mgs once in the morning, it did nothing. Increased again to 5 mgs, then 7.5 mgs. I feel really off color, heavy legs, numbness in my feet, belly ache, nausea, and panicky. It has lowered my blood pressure to an average of 122/66. I will speak to my doctor tomorrow and discuss changing meds, I think for my age my BP is too low, and I just want to feel well again."

"I was on 1.25 mg, but this made no difference to my BP. Now on 2.5 mg, and BP is down to 145/96, which is better than 169/130. I do feel better but suspect that BP could do with coming down a little further. I am only 42, do not drink or smoke, and am not overweight."

"58 yr old male, good health other than BP...seems to run in one side of my family. Tried everything from diet, exercise, alternative meds, supplements, meditation. All helped a little but not enough. 140/90 (morning) to 160/100 (evening) readings before 2.5 mg Ramipril per day. Within days, readings dropped by about 15 points across the board. I was taking 5 mg of lisinopril for a month, but Doc changed med due to the many side effects and less effectiveness to lower BP. I have very few side effects from Ramipril vs. lisinopril. The cough, dry throat, and chest phlegm thing is still present but more tolerable. An additional change has been the more diuretic effect of Ramipril on me, which may be resulting in the lower readings overall."

"I was prescribed Ramipril 2.50 mg to bring my BP down, which was spiking between 145/90 and 155/85. I found the usual headaches, dizziness, and tiredness during the first few weeks. Those symptoms never really went away. I think I just was able to manage them better as time went on. My BP did drop to around 120/80, though. But I have recently found the dizziness started to affect me a bit more, especially walking in busy shops. I've gone to the GP to ask for a lower dosage of 1.25 mg. I've only been on it for 3 days. My BP has gone up slightly to around 125/80. But I shall monitor that over the next few weeks. I've also noticed the 1.25 mg has given me a slightly drier throat. Not sure if it has to do with the coating of the capsule as the medicine should be the same as before. If BP goes up anymore and dizziness is the same, I shall go back to the usual 2.50 mg dosage, I will have just got to live with it."

"Took 2.5 Ramipril for high blood pressure. My side effects: itching. Looked up ingredients, saw there was yellow ochre in them, changed to 5 mg, which has red ochre in them, no problem. As I am allergic to spring flowering bulbs, I’m thinking the yellow ochre has something to do with this, making me itch. Could be wrong, but not itching with the 5 mg."

"After a few weeks, heart racing and dizziness started getting below normal, even after a low dose felt ill. Hospital recommended stopping taking it as my anxiety and heart rate are unbelievable. Hoping I can get it down now myself, gym from now on. Don't rate these meds."

"My lipidologist prescribed Ramipril 10 mg 2x/day beginning on 4.15.21 to begin treating my elevated BP 140's - 160+. He warned of a potential coughing side effect, as this med belongs to the ACE category of artery 'relaxers.' My coughing and throat tightening type spasms, like a hot flash, began immediately and kept me waking up at night. He said it was the best for preventing a stroke, so I tried it over 40 days, with minimal lower results, although I did see a few 120's, which was encouraging. I could no longer continue this med due to excessive side effects, which are starting to diminish now that I have stopped Ramipril. My MD switched me to Telmisartan (Micardis), which is in the ARB category of artery meds and typically does not have the coughing side effect. He has added a water pill, so I am beginning to get more consistent lower readings and no apparent side effects 'YET'?"

"I have been on it for 10 years. I have the cough, very tired, keep falling asleep, and reduced appetite. Also, achy joints (that could be age related). Today I forgot to take it and felt a lot better, with no cough or falling asleep. I am on 2.5 mg."

"Have just started ramipril 2.5 mg. It is the second day and felt extremely tired last night, otherwise, okay. My BP had been steadily climbing up to 155/99. I had been on amlodipine last year for about 6 weeks, which lowered my BP to a normal 128/68. However, my left leg started to break out in a large itchy rash, and the only thing different was taking amlodipine-so I stopped. Now I am on steroid cream for the rash, but still bits are there after 6 months. When reading side effects, I see it is a rare side effect of the amlodipine. So I will see how I cope with ramipril when I have been on it a while."

"38 age. BMI of 23. High BP 153/90 average based on a day 24-hour reading. Started Ramipril 5 mg. After 5 weeks, no side effects. Will get tested if my kidneys take it well in a week via blood test, says my GP. Last reading says 103/77, but was higher average 120/80 (home measure sitting). I also take hibiscus tea and arugula, which are very helpful. I believe this helped as well to bring my BP down."

"Was prescribed this medication at 2.5 mg Ramipril as a daily dose. No side effects other than feeling a great sense of calm and relaxation that I have never had my whole life. I don't snap or shout anymore, and my blood pressure has gone from an average of 157/86 down to 119/72. I feel so good on this medication I can't believe it. Started intermittent fasting and gym 3-4 times a week has possibly helped me too, can cut out crisps, biscuits, chocolate, and cakes from my diet, so lost a stone in my first 4 weeks."

"It takes 3-5 hours before it starts working, and it does not work for 24 hours as stated. I would say 10 mg will lose its effect 18 hours later. Also, it depletes zinc from your body (important for the immune system), use iron supplements, B-complex, and D3 vitamins, they help with the cough caused by ramipril. Usual BP med side effects: tiredness/fatigue, so I use it in the evening. On the other hand, ramipril is still much more effective for me than horrible amlodipine or useless propranolol. I don't even mention pathetic dehydrating, gastro-damaging diuretics..."

"Have just started Ramipril 10 mg daily this week. While I do endure a mild, annoying headache, I have been able to feel free breathing. I appreciate the many comments posted, they have been informative and consoling. To the gentleman who lost his wife, my sincerest condolences. Thank you for the warning, I hope research is forthcoming to prevent such a tragedy from happening again."

"I have been on Ramipril 2.5 mg for four weeks now, and BP has dropped from an average of 140/90 to 121/82, so slightly above normal. I had an aching back for the first two weeks, but that settled. Today, after four weeks, I have a slight headache but suspect that is the cold weather rather than the tablets. I am taking mine at night, as I read this was better to avoid the early morning increase in BP and also so if there was dizziness, I'd be asleep, so would be okay. Not due back to the doctor for another two months, so will continue monitoring and will call him if things change before then. Fingers crossed this will continue to be okay for me."

"I am 78 years old and was put on ramipril for high blood pressure, starting off on 2.5, and then, as my blood pressure did not improve, it was gradually increased to 10 mg. After each increase in medication, I had a blood test, and as I can view my results online, I noticed that my liver count was gradually increasing from 17 to eventually being 58! I commented to the doctor about this and was told it didn't affect the liver. I am not on ramipril anymore and have had bloods taken again, and my liver count has gone back to 18."

"Had pills since the beginning of December, got a cough in the first week of taking them. Now, 6 weeks later, I've had to come off them as it's a side effect. Now been left with a bad hacking cough and thick white phlegm. This is the side effect of ramipril. Was only on 1.25 mg."
