"I only take Phenergan for sleep as a last resort, and only the low dose. Phenergan does help me sleep, but it gives me intense nightmares and leaves me feeling really stressed and anxious. It also makes me drowsy the next day, so I basically can't function. Even for sleep, though, it only works for a few days and then wears off. So, only good for the short term in my case. I wouldn't dare try the stronger stuff, I think it would be too much. As for allergies, it works well and instantly. So there's that at least. Still get the side effects, though."

"I take promethazine for anxiety and sleep. My doctor would not prescribe benzodiazepines as I have BPD, and apparently, it’s not recommended for people with personality disorders. So he prescribed promethazine. I take 50 mg in the morning and 50 mg at night. It works like a treat, giving me no anxiety during the day and a good sleep at night. Would highly recommend."

"I have suffered with insomnia for years, mostly because of racing thoughts that I find hard to control. So, need to take a sedative about 3 times a week for sleep to function. I've been on prescription-strength sleeping pills in the past, but doctors are very reluctant to prescribe, which is no surprise given the side effects and high addiction risk. So, I take Phenergan/promethazine. I find after an hour I get sleepy, gives me a mellow feeling, and it seems to switch off my thoughts, making it easier to fall asleep. I do wake up tired on this drug because it is a sedative and have a dry mouth, but after a strong coffee and shower, I am back to normal and feel refreshed, like I had a good sleep on this drug. Other than a dry mouth, I find it a good medication with little to no side effects."

"I may have had an auditory hallucination using this. Took 3mg just to be cautious. Small tablets. Ambo had mentioned it to me, so I gave it a go. OTC in Australia. The pharmacist told me to use no more than three times a week. Not bad."

"I have severe anxiety with taking medication, but I was desperate due to my ADHD. I have insomnia and can sit up until 5/6 am. I read the reviews, so I decided half was enough, and it worked like a charm. Yes, the next day you feel groggy and sleepy for a while, same with any sleep medication. It’s weighing up your cons and pros. Works for me, but I only take 1-2 times a week when I REALLY need it. If it’s gone past 1 am, I won’t bother as I know I won’t get up if I take it and will just have it the next day 1-2 hours before bed."

"I took 25 mg Phenergan last night for anxiety, and it took 2 hours to kick in. I slept great and got 8 hours of sleep, the only thing for me was the length it takes to kick in."

"I tried to use 50 mg to go to sleep, and the medication had absolutely no effect on me other than heaviness in my legs. I guess it depends on who you are."

"Taken to help me sleep, didn't really feel it worked as still awake at 1 am (took it at 8 pm). The next morning, I couldn’t wake up. I was tired all the next day, dry mouth, and was exhausted. Had to stay home as I could barely open my eyes. Won’t be taking it again."
