"Been having constipation for over a year due to autonomic neuropathy, I was only going perhaps once a week or less, and then it was a small amount. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis and put on that medication. The constipation continued. Went back to the gastroenterologist, who prescribed this medication. On the morning of the 9th day (8 days of taking the medication), it finally kicked in, filled the pot, twice that day. However, constipation continued to the point I had a blockage. I have had no relief since day 9 and have used it for 6 weeks so far. I take the medication at the same time each day. It's like taking nothing, again. I have started experiencing headaches, unknown if related to this particular medication or to the autonomic neuropathy. Will be returning to the doctor for other ideas."

"I used to have to push very hard to be able to poop. It would take me 20-30 minutes just sitting there and making a huge effort. I started developing severe abdominal pain to the point I couldn’t even walk. Several times I dropped on the floor, unable to walk. I thought the pain was related to my IUD device, so I removed it, hoping it would help. It was on that visit that my gynecologist recommended that if the pain didn’t go away, it was possible I had chronic idiopathic constipation and that a new treatment called Trulance was available. The pain didn’t go away, so I decided to try some over-the-counter laxatives, but they would make me get diarrhea. So finally, I changed my diet, and I noticed that as long as I didn’t eat any processed foods, I would be okay, but as soon as I ate anything ‘unhealthy,’ I would get cramps again."

"My doctor also put me on Trulance after banding all my bleeding hemorrhoids. If I take it early in the day, it seems to do nothing, if I take it in the evening, it works, it works too well! The pills are very tiny, but I can bite off about a third of one and still have to run, run, run to the bathroom. I think I'm going to try taking a bit of one every other day and see what happens. Oh, and I took it for about a week before it started to work. The longer I took it, the better it worked. I don't like almost pooping myself every day, but I guess it's better than not pooping at all! I'll experiment with it and see if I can get the right dosage. Linzess didn't work for me at all."

"I have been on a high dose of Linzess and finally, with probiotics, got on a regular schedule. Due to insurance issues, I was switched to Trulance. Trulance, so far, has caused constipation, extreme lethargy, headaches, and a weird depression. I would rather go back to Linzess and have liquid stools than have no stools at all. I have had to drink tons of Miralax to get any relief. I don't think the Trulance does anything whatsoever but have bad side effects."

"This drug worked fairly well for me the first couple of months I took it. It gave me stomach cramps and diarrhea, but I was willing to deal with it if it meant not constantly being 'backed up.' However, after a few months, I would get varied results when taking it. Some days it would provide a bowel movement, and other days only severe cramps with no BM. After about a year of taking it, it seems to no longer work for me, unfortunately."

"Have been dealing with constipation since I had weight loss surgery 15 years ago. Tried everything, bag enemas, then Fleet liquid glycerin enemas along with Amitiza. I felt like my life was controlled by having to make time to go or not knowing when it would go. I started Trulance about 4 months ago. Life changed forever. Since I’m working from home now since COVID, I’ve had the luxury of being able to experiment with this. After 4 months of every day one pill, I switched to 1/2 a pill every day and it’s just as effective, which is good because at $150 a month now it lasts two months. Pooping still occupied most of my morning, but once it’s done, I’m pain-free and no bloating or anything. I’ve kind of figured out that I eat my cereal first, then take it, then I have about an hour and a half to go to the store or do whatever before I’m gonna need the bathroom if I take it with half my iced coffee and then the rest of my coffee when I get home from the store. Worth it!"

"At first, I thought it's not working, but after some time taking it regularly, it works as intended, so I can say that from my own experience, it's better than some non-prescribed drugs I tried before."

"I tried one tablet around 2 pm, and within the hour, I was on the toilet with a runny evacuation, then bloating, then more diarrhea, more gas, even more runny evacuation. This lasted until maybe 8:30 pm. That night, I experienced pains running through my body, my arms and legs hurt so badly. It’s hard to describe, not sure what that was. I think it was from the Trulance medicine, so I’m scared to take another one. I had a loose evacuation the next evening, and this was without taking another tablet on day two. I’m considering taking the tablet every other day but not sure. Someone mentioned weight, which is a huge neon green, orange, and red flag for me to stop. I want to lose weight, not gain it. Plus, I’d think cleaning out would reduce one's weight. Anywho, my verdict is on the fence for now, I don’t know. I am elated to have a BM, given I can maybe go once a week."

"This medication has given me a lot of relief. I would say I am 85% back to what my bowel used to be 4 years ago before the symptoms appeared in my life. I have been to 3 gastro doctors and have tried Montegrity, Lynzess, and Amitza. All of them gave me side effects that I could not live with. I went into depression as no one could, until this day, tell me what is exactly wrong with me. My symptoms are bloating, like extreme to the point I have to lay down for periods of time because of how uncomfortable it is. Also, constipation followed by diarrhea. I have tried elimination diets as well for over 3 years, and nothing seemed to help. My last gastro doctor recommended Trulance, and so I tried it, and immediately I had a bowel movement and with no headaches, stomach aches, or bloating. I did experience diarrhea, but I take that before constipation any day. I find it works best when I take it in the morning with a full bottle of water on an empty stomach and then eat breakfast. I need to go to the bathroom immediately."

"Donna C mentioned sinus problems. My sinus issues (post-nasal drip in particular) were a result of reflux and hiatal hernia. When the bad PND got worse, Nexium greatly improved things! I figured out myself-tons of online research. My gastro said he'd heard that can be the case. Unfortunately, it doesn't fix the greater problem but thought it might be useful. I have severe constipation thought to be the result of scar tissue in the abdomen-1X had a complete obstruction that resulted in resection. Have tried every possible med. Experience with Trulance was initially positive-lasted about 3 days. More gas than usual, but it moved my bowels more completely and more normally looking. Since then, it has been almost explosive diarrhea, though not as terrible as with Linzess. Giving this a bit more time but, like others, really just so tired of how this controls and limits my life. Still on trial packs, but RX is approved and waiting for me to pick up."

"The very first time I took Trulance was in the late afternoon since that's when I got home from the doctor who gave me samples. About an hour or so later, I started having increased diarrhea that went on for 3-4 hours. So I picked different times to take it. The next time wasn't so bad, but after a week and a half, it just doesn't work! So now I will experiment with taking it at bedtime. Not giving up yet."

"I just started Trulance. Family members are on it with no problems. I wanted to stop senna as it requires more and more over time for me. It worked (first day). I do want to warn about Miralax (see the Yahoo group called Miralax). It can cause burning bladder. It did with me and took 3 months to stop. I took it 9 months before getting the burning. So I REALLY need this to keep working as it did today. And I did also only take half, as my system seems to need less dosage of all meds. I'll let you know as soon as I'm on it for a while."

"I take Motegrity daily and just started Trulance every other day. I have a bowel movement within an hour of taking the Trulance. I was using Amitiza and Motegrity, but it was slow to work. I also tried Linzess in the past, which made me super nauseous and abdominal pain. I am getting some diarrhea from the Trulance, but I’m hoping my body gets more used to it with time."

"I’ve had constipation for as long as I can remember. Things would work, but my body would get used to them, and it would stop. I have IBS with constipation. I take muscle relaxers, but not every day. When I took Trulance, my first few days I had to wear a diaper to bed! Then if I took it every few days, it worked better. Then it didn’t work. Now I’m taking it every day. I am very bloated, nauseous, and have pain in my colon. I was hoping this would be the answer. Linzess did nothing. The doctor couldn’t believe it! Me neither."

"Do not take this medication under any circumstances. I paid $500 for an RX, took 1 pill in the late evening. Woke up at 3 am with bedclothes and bedding soaked with diarrhea, leaving an embarrassing and unsanitary condition that took hours to clean up. The problem did not stop there. The 'cleansing' went on for three solid hours non-stop. I have been nauseous and without appetite for 4 days. Lost 4 pounds from my normal body weight of 98. My insurance company insisted I try this instead of my regular medicine, which I have taken for years, or they would not cover my regular prescription. This medicine is poison for people with my issue. Now I am out $500 to satisfy big pharma's need for a 'trial' victim."

"Started it 8 days ago. 4 days, nothing. Had to use magnesium citrate pills, 3 in the morning and 3 at night with the Trulance. My doctor wants me off magnesium citrate and just rely on Trulance (new doctor doesn't know how my body shuts down yet). Gives me bloating and gas, where magnesium citrate didn't. Just pleasing the doctor till more tests are run."

"I find out of 7 days of taking it a week, it works only 1 or 2. I can't have a BM without taking the pills. This is my last resort before total colon removal. This problem is a result of having taken Aimovig for my migraines."

"Wow, all my life starting as a small child, I suffered with no bowel evacuations. Trulance saved my life, literally. But they keep raising the price! Even with Medicare Part D plan, I can no longer afford it. No pun intended, but that's just the sh*t! My Doc is now giving me free samples. But they can't do that for life..."

"My insurance stopped coverage on the Amitiza that I had been taking, which was working, and made me try Trulance. I couldn’t even make it through a month. I would rather take nothing at all. The horrible pain, the never-ending gas that did end up with a bowel movement, but with the overwhelming urge to strain. Even then, only 2 or 3 bm a week compared to 1 bm a day that I was accustomed to."

"2 days of this medicine and I have been extremely sick! Nonstop going to the bathroom, cramping, nausea. It's unreal. I'm skeptical to stop because what if I needed the cleanse? But I can't take this sickness."

"I found it! Trulance is my miracle. After months and months of prayer to finally rid myself of my condition, I finally gave in and tried this. Originally, I tried all these other common drugs (Linzess, Motegrity, Amitiza), and either the side effects were horrible, or it only worked temporarily. Trulance works with my insurance, and it works with my bowels. I take it in the morning with coffee and water to wash it down. Usually, within a few hours, I feel actual bubbles in my digestive system, meaning it’s normal! Finally, it works. If I know I have a shift at work, I don’t take it in the morning usually because the stress and being on my feet won’t allow me to relax. But I never knew how effortlessly happy I could ever be in my entire 23 years of life. Thank you, God!"

"I’ve taken Trulance for a little over a year now, and what once was an answer to my prayers is now nothing but a waste of time. I was going regularly for the first 10 months or so. Today is day 4 without going. I have pain, bloating, irritability, nausea, and just want to cry. I asked my doctor if this is normal after taking it for this long and was told they have heard that happens. Sadly, I am back to square one."
