"My husband started 800 mg Votrient 12 months ago, 3 months post-right renal nephrectomy with grade 4 renal cell carcinoma nodules in both lungs. CT scans 3 months later showed all nodules had shrunk, the last 3 CT scans have revealed no change, and he is stable. BUT he is suffering from massive bouts of diarrhea, as in some days/nights 10 or more times. He finds drinking the required amount of water makes him nauseous, but he looks dehydrated, pale, and is lethargic. Because of the urgent diarrhea, he is always worried about going places unless he knows where he can rush to the toilet, so he tends not to go far, so this really impacts his life. He also has vomiting at times. His specialist only says to take anti-diarrhea tablets and prescribed Maxalon."

Pazopanib "Using Votrient from Jan 2013 until July 2020. Had right kidney removed in Nov 2011 on diagnosis of my cancer. Metastasized in my submandibular and parotid glands in Sept 2012, starting Votrient in Jan 2013. Side effects appear to improve over the years, the main issue was blood pressure and diarrhea. I stopped Votrient to try SRT, which appears to be working."

"Had radical nephrectomy August 2014, and I was clear until January 2016 when spots were found on both lungs. Had operations to remove the cancer on the lungs (big mistake). Cancer returned within 6-8 weeks. Started pazopanib 5 months ago. It's working! Lung spots have shrunk. Side effects seem to come in waves for me. I'll have a few weeks of normal bowel, then I'll have a week or so when it's bad. Hair has turned white (I'm 47). Bad taste in my mouth, I've lost weight (10 lbs), appetite comes and goes, but it's mainly not there. Ulcers in my mouth have gone, but I can't get rid of the ones in my throat. Blood pressure is normal. I feel tired at the end of the day (earlier than usual), but no real fatigue. Overall, I'm feeling good and still working. Keep fighting all, God bless."

Pazopanib "My husband had a nephrectomy of his left kidney, it had spread to his left testicle, and he had the testicle removed as well. Before the operation, the surgeon said that the mass had been slow-growing for roughly ten years. He is 67 and in mostly good health outside of the cancer. It has been a year and a half on Votrient. The first dosage was too high and caused him a few hospital visits to stabilize his liver function. Now he is on half that dose, the only prominent side effect is the occasional nausea, fatigue, and vomiting/fainting spells. Of course, his hair has also gone completely white. He is very thin and struggles to put on weight but has a healthy appetite. It seems that this dosage is working, his cancer cells have shrunk. He goes for a PET scan twice a year and has been clear so far. In 4 months, it will be 2 years since diagnosis. So far, the medication is working. The diet seems to be the trickiest part, and I would recommend that you see an expert dietician. A specific diet is NB."

Pazopanib "Daddy has clear cell renal cell carcinoma. He was first put on Opdivo and Yervoy-an immunotherapy. This worked great! It was shrinking my dad's tumors that he had in his stomach, liver, lungs, and right atrium (heart). It even got rid of all the cancer in his stomach. The cancer spread to his brain, and he had to be put on chemotherapy. Votrient had a lot of side effects: nausea, super high blood pressure, major fatigue, and chemo brain fog. He lost 80 pounds on Votrient from not eating. Became frail and fragile, and we were afraid he would die from malnutrition. We begged the doctor to take him off it because she even said he wouldn't live much longer on it, but the issue was the Votrient was SHRINKING the tumors in his liver. This was a sign it was working. His doctor put him on dexamethasone 2 mg, which helped his energy levels and his appetite tremendously. He gained 40 pounds! He was on Votrient 6 months, but BP and brain fog got worse, though, so she then put him on Avastin."

"My husband was diagnosed with RCC stage 2 in Oct. Last year. He had 1 kidney removed and was on pazopanib 800 mg. But this has been reduced to 400 mg due to severe side effects. Now he takes the 400 mg for 10 days and discontinues for 3 days every time. His oncologist is happy with the test results for now, at least for around 9-10 days per month, he can eat a little more."

"I have stage 4 RCC. The drug worked for 4 years, the docs were surprised that it worked so long. I had most of the side effects: diarrhea, hair turning white, stomach cramps, but better than the pain. The tumors ate through a rib, 2 neck vertebrae, and my kidney, and some small ones in my lungs. The kidney and vertebrae were removed. The tumors doubled in size. I am now on Afinitor."

"I was diagnosed Christmas Eve 2007 with a stage 4 tumor on the right kidney. Had nephrectomy of the R kidney, adrenal gland, and a portion of the renal vein in Jan 08. A few months later had a tumor on the L adrenal gland removed. In 2014 RCC met on the left shoulder blade; had 1/3rd of the blade removed. In 2015 a scan showed 7 lesions of various sizes on the liver. Started on 800 mg daily of Votrient in March 2015. Overnight my hair went from dark brown to grey. This is the only side effect I have experienced. The tumors on the liver have gone from 7 to 2 in about 9 years. I do have fatigue, but it is due to a lack of adrenal glands and no hormones. I take synthetic meds for fatigue and replace some hormones. After 5 years, I started having severe diarrhea, so I take a combo of Imodium AD and a probiotic. It helps control it. I feel great as of today, but early on with RCC, had problems walking but could still function. Daily exercise is a must even when one does not feel up to it."

"My father-in-law (age 76) suffered from renal cell carcinoma. After nephrectomy of the affected kidney, he was fine with a single kidney for more than 1 year. His creatinine was around 1.1 to 1.2 (with a single kidney). He did not have any high blood pressure or diabetes. However, after a routine CT, a few questionable nodules were detected in the lungs. Without cross-verification (like repeat scan/biopsy/PET scan, etc.), his oncologist prescribed him pazopanib 800 mg per day. Soon after starting the medicine, his blood pressure became extremely high (200/100), and creatinine started jumping from 1.1, 1.8, 2.2, 2.8, 3.2, and 3.5 in 3 months. His platelet dropped from 165,000 to below 50,000 with a lot of side effects (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.). We repeatedly informed the oncologist, but he was in denial mode. When we consulted a nephrologist, he stopped the medicine. The deteriorating renal function stopped at creatinine 3.5. But, unfortunately, his platelet did not recover from below the 50,000 mark, and he died due to a cerebral hemorrhage."
