For GERD "I was just diagnosed with GERD. Was on Nexium and it really didn’t work well. Went to a gastro and now I am on day 7 of Pantoprazole (generic for Protonix). It worked so well for the first 5 days. Day 6 and now 7, I am having pretty mild heartburn and waking up with it instantly in the morning. My symptoms have returned. I know it takes a while to work fully but....is this normal? Why is this happening?"

For Erosive Esophagitis "First day on pantoprozole 40mg I had an excessively achy back , legs, and feet. I chalked it up to not working for a few days and then being back on my feet. Day 2,3,4 Started getting sciatica-like aching in lumbar area, hips , and behind my butt. My joints ached and muscles felt spasmy. Every place that I may have arthritis in ached horribly. Felt weak and dizzy. Every weight bearing joint from the waist down ached like never before."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "I took this medication until my HMO dropped it fron their formulary. While taking it, I felt great. I took only one a day and, if I forgot to take it or forgot to refill it before running out, I could miss a day or two without the heartburn returning. My doctor subsequently put me on Prilosec, twice a day. If I miss one, heartburn returns with a vengeance. If I miss a whole day, it takes three to five days to get the heartburn under control, again"

Protonix (pantoprazole) for Stomach Ulcer "I was taking an acid reducer called Ranitidine quite often over a 3 year period. Doctor prescribed 40mg Protonix for 28 days and my stomach felt so much better. Now going without the medication for 10 days, it feels as if my stomach is not doing so well. Doctor advised that I take 20 mg when needed. Bottom line - it worked for me."

For GERD "I have been on pantoprazole prescribed by my primary doc., About four weeks 40mg. The reason why my doctor put me on it was because the acid reflex was becoming worse by the day. In addition, I had an esophagram and it confirmed that I had Gerd. During this 4 week stretch I feel worse by the day. On and off constipation, flatulence, sore throat/ burning , insomnia and constant hacking, coughing up white foamy phlegm that is syrupy. I know one thing that has caused this GERD to come on is Tomatoes. I used to eat them in one fashion or another daily. My body rejects them and causes terrible heart burn. Now, I must do life changes in diet. That’s not easy to do."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "I have had GERD as long as I can remember. It wasn't quite so bad before pregnancy that I decided against medication. Since becoming pregnant, it was to the point of throwing up stomach acid a few times a day & I could barely move. We tried a few other medications that just did not work. I have been on protonix for 1 month & I have not had a single bit of heartburn since the very first day I took it."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Pantoprazole helped the burning sensation within few days. No side effects. Having pain still but treatment is only half way through. Don't be afraid to take it. I'm afraid of taking anything and have severe anxiety disorder but this I took with ease. It beats feeling the alternative. It does work."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "Protonix totally eliminates my throat pain, hoarseness, reflux, etc. After 6 years my insurance decided not to cover it so for the last few months, I've been on several other medicines and they just don't work. My doctor is trying to convince them I need the Protonix. Wish me luck."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "I had tried every other medicine out there, and none of them has worked for me like Protonix does. In combination with Carafate, I feel like me again. The chest pain, burping and burning has almost completely went away. No side effects at all. I highly recommend this medication.."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "My GERD mainly affected my voice and was the source of mild chest pain. I started Protonix about a week ago and it's been a massive help already. I feel like I can finally breathe again. I've tried OTC drugs in the past such as omeprazole and Gaviscon, but neither helped. I'm virtually symptom-free now and have experienced no side effects."

For GERD "I've had pretty bad acid reflux for years now, probably about 6 years and I finally went to the doctor to get it checked out. He put me on this medicine pantoprazole and I thought it worked for the first couple of days. But now I have SEVERE chest tightness and pain and my symptoms got worse. I'll be calling them and seeing if they can put me on something else."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for Peptic Ulcer "Hospitalized January 2012 due to bleeding peptic ulcer which I didn't know I had. GI doc said ulcer was due not to H. pylori but entirely to NSAIDs, the nightly 325 mg aspirin (combination therapy with Plavix for RCA stent, Dec. 2010), to which I added generous doses of Advil (600-800 mg) most days trying to combat muscle pain from simvastatin (current combination of Livalo 2 mg 400 mg CoQ10 = no pain). I am supposed to continue Protonix as long as I am taking aspirin (now only 81 mg). No visible side effects after a year and a half. I do take magnesium 2-3 times a week due to concern about Protonix knocking mg level down. Also take Caltrate, for the osteoporosis it may cause. Protonix is easy to take, but hard to get off of, I hear."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "I have had GERD for years now. I started out taking Prilosec, but it started making me burp a lot and it would just absolutely hurt. My doctor switched me to Protonix and that has helped so much. I take 40 mgs twice a day. I don't burp nearly as much and food doesn't creep back up and into my mouth like it did so much either. I also take Zantac at night, but it still had helped a lot even before then. It's been such a relief. I didn't get any side effects from it either. I take it 30 minutes before breakfast and 30 minutes before lunch."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for Stomach Ulcer "After a couple of days using Protonix, I felt relief in my stomach of the full feeling I would get whenever I ate. I used to feel very bloated and uncomfortable after I ate a meal, I wasn't overeating either. I had to watch what I ate too, such as spices, onions, etc. Most of those symptoms have gone away."

For Barrett's Esophagus "So what I read this is supposed to be a "short term" med When my GERD acts up - I loose voice and feel a constant lump in throat nothing seems to help- I look on web - also have allergies/post nasal drip- Yes even drinking water seems to make worse - I eat a lot of bread I eat a lot of cottage cheese. Learned today that stuffed olives may even help - lol. I have had 2 scopes - both Barretts but biopsy shows no cancer - then I read this drug may cause stomach cancer. Started having problems again a few weeks ago with throat - started back on drinking lots of water, allergy spray and Pantoprazole only to have headaches, no energy, extreme gas, insomnia and watery stools - after a week I still have no voice/feeling weaker because of all the pooping. Also learned the med depletes Vit B ?? I will not take tonight or ever again - will go get Nexium which I took in past and try to get my voice as well as my bowl habits back BE VERY CAREFUL OF THIS MEDICATION"

For GERD "Went on this medication due to reflux that couldn’t be fixed with over the counter medication. It did help with the burning sensation but in return I got chest pains that spread to my back and neck, constant burping, coughing, cold sweats and a whole heap of anxiety. Heading back to my doctor tomorrow to hopefully find something else that will work."

For Erosive Esophagitis "I had an endoscopy which revealed esophagitis. The GI doctor prescribed 40mg of pantoprazole and after 2 or 3 days on it, my chest was hurting, there was a disgusting taste in my mouth, and my throat became incredibly hot and sore. I stopped taking the medication but it is over a week later and I am still suffering from these conditions. The taste in my mouth is driving me crazy. I am extremely concerned this drug gave me GERD and I have no idea what to do. I have talked to three doctors and none of them know how to help me. They all deny the drug can do this, but what else could have caused it? I have been anxious and depressed and terrified this drug did permanent damage to me."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for GERD "I was recently diagnosed with GERD. Of course this was after a trip to the hospital thinking I was having heart problems. The Doc put me on Protonix and after about 1 week it's as if my life was back to normal. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover it any more so I gave it a "9" instead of a "10" rating for this alone. With many generic others costing only $5 for 60 days. Anyway, I suggest that if you do try it, give it a few days to work."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Took pantoprazole for 2 weeks. It helped the gastritis somewhat but the side effects were not worth it. Bloated, gassy, constipated, and just plain miserable. Everywhere I went smelled like fart. Not like normal fart, but super mega supreme farts. My couch smelled, my bed smelled, & I even heard a couple complaints in the grocery store! My butt was constantly leaking rank farts beyond my control. At first, I had to use coffee to be able to go #2, but then I wasn't able to go at all. I even tried Miralax, which normally helps with occasional constipation, but even that didn't work, just caused fluid to get stuck in my bowel. You could press on my lower abdomen & hear squelching but I could still barely go at all! 2 days after stopping this medication, and my bowels finally released. It's been about 5 days now, and I've lost about 5 lbs from pooping. I weigh just under 130 lbs, so 5 lbs of crap is a lot on my small frame. I seriously looked prego. I'm going back to Pepcid."

For GERD "I developed GERD and was prescribed Pantoprazole. It seemed to help quickly. A month ago my stomach pain became unbearable and I started sleeping almost all day and night which is very unusual for me. Then I started with diarrhea and nausea and could not eat or drink anything. The thought of food or even water made me nauseous. After two weeks I went to the ER. I could barely walk and had lost 15 pounds. I was dehydrated and received an IV for fluids. They could find nothing such as a bacterial or parasitic issue for my distress. I was told to go home and continue the Pantoprazole. After six more days of dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, sleeping all day I though of the medicine as the one thing different in my life. I stopped it three days ago and finally was able to start eating and drinking liquids again. This drug should NOT be on the market. I wish I had researched the side effects earlier."

For GERD "I was prescribed this medication like 4 years ago and ever since taking it I had complained about always feeling dizzy. I’ve even went to the ER about this! Countless blood test found nothing wrong. I felt hopeless and weak and almost like I couldn’t do life. There was about 7 months of NON-STOP migraines like couldn’t shake them or get ride of them. It wasn’t until I went to my doctor begging for more answers it wasn’t until she told me it was side effects of the medication. Been off it a week and a half and symptoms have subsided Unbelievably I mean I still have the heartburn attacks but, I got to find relief soon."

Protonix (pantoprazole) for Peptic Ulcer "Esophageal ulcer: Had problems off and on with horrible heartburn throughout my teens years until I ended up with an ulcer due to undiagnosed acid reflux and other problems. Was prescribed Protonix and it was the only thing that worked. Since then I have been able to use Tagamet (cimetidine) for every day use, along with watching what I eat, but the Protonix is awesome."
