Pancrelipase "I have autoimmune pancreatitis and have been sick for years. No doctor could figure out what was wrong with me. When I was admitted to the hospital at the beginning of 2024, I was dying. A chance encounter with a doctor there led to the diagnosis of EPI, and then the cause (autoimmune pancreatitis). They started me on Creon immediately. It was a miracle drug. I could eat again. No pain, no running to the bathroom. And then I had an allergic reaction to it, anaphylaxis. So I had to stop. We changed to Pancreaze and it has worked even better for me. I'm currently on 21,000 units with every meal. The only side effects I deal with are a little bloating and gas if I have a high-fat meal."

Pancrelipase for Cystic Fibrosis "Out of all the synthetic pancreatic enzymes I have taken, Creon 20 is the most helpful so far, but I find it's best just to not eat fat. Also, a normal person needs only 30 calories of fat a day, so if you have cystic fibrosis, keep this in mind."

Pancrelipase for Chronic Pancreatitis "I started Creon and felt great for 2 weeks, no side effects... and then I had swelling in my lower legs, ankles, and feet. The doctor told me to stop taking it. I am truly disappointed - less bloating, gas, no pain at all. I hope he has something else in mind."

Pancrelipase for Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "I have been taking 24,000 units of Creon 3x for meals and 1x for snacks for about a year. Initially, Creon seemed to work without noticeable side effects. Now, I have developed functional dyspepsia, including weight loss, bloating, and a hard stomach. The dosage was increased, however, I still am not able to gain weight. I am very disappointed with this medication."

For Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "These enzymes dehydrated me so badly and lowered my blood pressure a lot. The price is insane. I've switched to natural digestive enzymes with probiotics and am having fantastic results. I really hated how huge the capsules were. They were very hard to swallow. My monthly dosage now costs me less than 8 dollars (compared to one thousand for Zenpep!!!)"

Pancrelipase for Cystic Fibrosis "Creon has helped my little three-year-old cousin. She was born with cystic fibrosis, and she doesn't understand what it can and what it is doing to her! She is a healthy little girl that is going to survive this birth defect!"

Pancrelipase for Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "Doctors prescribed Zenpep with meals and snacks. I pay $25 for 250 pills every month for 5 months, and then all my scripts are free for the last 7 months of the year with my insurance. This medicine works wonders. I'm so grateful. It helps with my acid reflux and gas. If I forget to take it, I realize it for sure I will start getting symptoms immediately. The doctor prescribes the max dose, so I will never run out. Forever grateful."

Pancrelipase for Cystic Fibrosis "Was given this med due to chronic diarrhea. PCP wanted to see if it would help with it. The same night I took it, I started having horrible mid to upper back pain, then pain along the left side that went into the abdomen. I went to the ER and told them about the meds, and they ran tests and were unsure. I got labs before I left that showed an infection in the blood, so now being treated for this rare infection with high-dose antibiotics. Make sure to get labs for this since the virus can be overlooked if they're not familiar with Creon."

Pancrelipase "I just started this medication to treat IBS. So far, I'm not bloated and do not have a lot of gas, but my throat is irritated, which can happen. I'm just grateful I don't feel like crap. I felt ill for 2 years, not knowing what was wrong with me as I had a blood test and found I had stress in my pancreas."

Pancrelipase "I had an ileostomy/colostomy operation 40 years ago (stoma bag) at age 21 and recently had the Whipple procedure operation (now 59) due to pancreatic cancer, all linked to ulcerative colitis. It was the first time my surgeon had done a Whipple on top of an ileostomy. I was told to take three Creon tabs with a meal or each course and two with a snack. Creon has made ZERO difference for me that I can tell. I know my body, I know what it does, why, and the results (waste, bloating, pain, and discomfort), and I question how or do they help me and in what way. I don't believe they do anything for me, others might be different, but I experience no difference and would NEVER suggest anyone stops using them, down to the individual experience."

For Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "I took this medication for about 1 year. During which time I developed pre-gout symptoms. My uric acid levels went very high. Then we cut back the dose because I must take another medication that also contains porcine. I also have ongoing stomach bloating, and the doctor didn't know anything about it. Been having lots of trouble sleeping also then discovered that is another side effect of this medication. I've discontinued using it and switched to a plant-based digestive enzyme that just depends on that also helps me digest foods with wheat since I am celiac. In my humble opinion, the side effects make this medication not usable for me. It did its job in terms of digesting food, I will give it that."

For Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "After a Whipple procedure I need to take these. Now about the finance... I take 8 of the blue pills daily, 2 at meals, 1 at snacks. Cost about $80.00 every day. I'm on Medicare with Part D coverage. Is there a cheaper generic?"

Pancrelipase for Cystic Fibrosis "I've taken Zenpep for most of my life. I take 5 caps with meals and snacks because I have fat in every meal. It works great, and the only time I've had an issue is if I had an extra fatty meal and didn't take an additional capsule. I recommend Zenpep to anyone with CF."

For Chronic Pancreatitis "I have Crohn's disease, I've had two surgeries, and have problems digesting food. My doctor put me on Creon, and within an hour after taking it, I had the worst case of brain fog ever. Like being stoned, but not in a good way. I tried it for several days and then stopped. Waited several days and tried it again with the same result. My doctor said it 'could not' have been from the Creon... well, I'm sure that it was."

For Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "I have type 2 diabetes and was recently diagnosed through the fecal elastase test. I was having chronic diarrhea and unbelievable gas and losing weight. As it turns out, my elastase level was at 40, it should be 300+ indicating a severe case of EPI from chronic pancreatitis. I am currently taking up to 65k (for big fatty meals) and 10k to 35k per snack. I adjust my dose accordingly - more for extra big fatty meals and less for smaller, less fatty meals or snacks. Each person is different, and you have to tailor dosage. The goal is to take the least dose that is effective to avoid side effects. At the moment, I am doing really well and have zero diarrhea and have gained weight. This medication has given me back a normal life, and without it, I was doomed. I suggest you stay the course and start your dosing at between 35k to 45k per meal, going up or down as needed, keeping in mind your body weight less or more accordingly. My body weight is 200 lbs. Best wishes to everyone."

Pancrelipase for Chronic Pancreatitis "I took Viokase for years, and it did more for me than Creon. I never had any side effects and tolerated the drug for many years. I then moved to Ga. from Fla., and my new doctor took me off Viokase, and I now take Creon, and as I said, I wish I could still get Viokase."

Pancrelipase for Cystic Fibrosis "I have cystic fibrosis and turned 60 a few months back. I have survived a double lung transplant, a kidney transplant, a number of bowel obstruction surgeries, a hematoma, and heart surgery for my lung adhering to the heart. I have been taking Pancrease for as long as I can remember. I have not had a bowel obstruction surgery since I’ve had my lung transplant in 2010. However, how well can Pancrease be working for me, considering I had so many obstructions? Maybe it is time that I try one of the other enzymes like Creon or ZenPep. Has anyone tried the three at different periods of their lives and picked one that worked the best out of the three?"

Pancrelipase for Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "I started taking Creon the week before Thanksgiving and miracle—it stopped my ongoing diarrhea. I'm on a low dose - 12,000-38-60,000 unit capsule delayed release. Then the following week morning diarrhea started followed by middle of the night diarrhea. I've emailed my gastroenterologist and maybe she will change dosage."

Pancrelipase for Pancreatic Exocrine Dysfunction "I was having so much pain in my belly and weight loss, and I was not sure what was going on with my body. My primary care doctor ordered a test through fecal, and the diagnosis was that I have EPI -50 on the results. I was not able to eat and didn't have pain after eating or have normal bowel movements. After I went to my GI doctor, they recommended I start taking CREON, the higher dose, and after I started taking the med, my life changed. I'm able to eat normally, and I gained weight. I know not everyone has the same side effects. I'm sorry for those that the med has not worked for, but for me it was a different history."
